Game Gear replacement screen lens

Post by nildem »

I purchased one on eBay back around 2010 but the quality was terrible. The lens had a rubbery feel to it and was actually cloudier than the lens I was attempting to replace.

I noticed there are now at least two different options available, and the seller I originally purchased from doesn't appear to be active anymore. Has anybody purchased one of the lenses that are currently being offered? How do they compare to the originals?

Got the same gummy one back then. I think it's still kicking around. Wish I knew a place to get a good repro. I ended up using displex screen and plastic polish on the original.

I was actually able to contact via e-mail one of the folks who did a how-to video on Game Gear screen lens replacement on YouTube. He claims the one he purchased is "identical or better" than the original as far as clarity is concerned. It's supposedly made of a far less rigid plastic than the original (bendable like the Nintendo lenses) but maintains the same size, thickness, etc. He seemed happy with it.

Unfortunately the link he sent me was to an eBay seller who no longer sells the lenses, so I'm still uncertain which one of the lenses is the one he bought. :?

I'm probably going to bite the bullet and buy one blindly sometime in the next couple days. I'll let you know how it goes.
