Saw Chappie this past weekend. Loved some of the thematic elements, which have some spoilers but I won't mention just yet. I thought the plot was fairly slow at first then became too fast paced. Some of the plot elements just seemed a little too simple and that the characters were still fairly one-dimensional and not all complex.

I wonder if it's his writing team or what. The films are easy on the eyes and I often love the symbolism and messages contained with his films.

I have no idea why Dave's animosity towards Blomkamp is so intense. Certainly he's not the best director ever, but give the guy a break, he does some fairly fresh things with the science fiction genre. Hell, District 9 is better than Prometheus. I'm with JMustang that District 9 is totally better than Elysium. There's no comparison. Was it the addition of Matt Damon and Jodie Foster as to why you liked Elysium more Dave? What made Elysium the better film?

For me, I loved the irony in the film's opening moments. Setting the film in South Africa for District 9, a country with its history of Apartheid, setting into place another oppressive system for prawns, was an amazing start.

For Elysium, it's the proletariat vs. the bourgeoisie. Set in low orbit and a decimated Earth.

Worst tag line ever, but applicable "It'll make your heart Race!".

Lucas and Spielberg definitely imitated/borrowed from the race scenes. And not to take away from the writing...but those race scenes are a blast.

I hate to be a pessimist, but the odometer of funny on these guys have been past the red mark for years. Ron Burgundy was shit, at best, and even Seth Rogen can't make me chuckle anymore.

I don't know whats the type of comedy Ben Stiller does, but I really hate it. I find him irritating more than funny.
