The latest game in the series is actually in English, and not yet included in the HG101 article.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Interesting! I had no idea! Time to do some research! Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I really, really despise VGA Grading. Like it makes me noticeably angry. If there were some type of way to be an authority in such a thing I would be more open to it. It was bad enough when they started doing this with sports cards. There is a thread on another site about it and it just strikes me as a group of people with way too much time (and possibly money) on their hands. Would never buy a graded game.
Some things like collecting good condition items or even reselling have a certain percentage of nostalgia attached to them. This has none. It wouldn't matter if it was video games, baseball cards, or pot holders. It's all about money and/or stroking your own ego because you have an 89 rated copy of Bayou Billy, whatever that even means.

Nah, 85 grade is where it's at.

Has anybody ever wanted to find the nastiest, dirtiest, most fucked up cart ever and send it in? Like there is no label, Legend of Zelda is written on it in sharpie even though it's a copy of Ballz, the cartridge is faded and a lovely brown color from all of the dirt in the sticker residue, Hollywood Video is branded into the side, hair is sticking to it, etc., and send that in? I wonder if it would get a single digit score. Like, I wonder if we could somehow get a 3. Just a 3.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I think they'll only grade sealed stuff except for special cases like competition carts, action figures that were mail in and maybe not sealed, and stuff like that. While I do think it would be amusing, I'm not spending the $50 or whatever to pay those shmucks to grade anything, even as a joke. Aside from disliking the practice, I had to deal with a previous boss's He Man figures coming and going to the grading people and clogging up my shipping area all the time.Ack wrote:Has anybody ever wanted to find the nastiest, dirtiest, most fucked up cart ever and send it in? Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
As far as I know they'll slab any game but it will receive "NG" for not graded if it's been opened.
Obviously one of a kind stuff like prototypes won't receive a grade either. Personally I think anyone who slabs a prototype instead of dumping it before the EEPROM dies is an asshole who cares more about vanity than preserving history.
And that poor SMB looks like it got ran over by a truck. They could tell people it's a perfect 10 at least.
