Clearing a difficult shooter, run 'n gun or platformer generally takes far longer than clearing any RPG.

We all know Dave credit feeds. That's how he's beaten so many games.

Depends on what you consider difficult but 80 plus hrs on those genres and either the game is broken or the player isn't very good.

Does your universe contain no Cave shooters? :P

This is just completely false.

It takes good players hundreds of hours to kill Doom in Ketsui, or Hibachi in Dodonpachi, or Larsa in Futari Ultra. There is nothing broken about the games, they are just hard, and require a very high level of consistency and precision even once the game has been memorized front and back.

Mame is free, Ketsui works great on it. Take a crack, see for yourself.

Those are pretty extreme examples.

I don't think it would take me "longer than an RPG" to clear something like Super C or Stinger or Wonder Boy.

Then again everyone's definition of "difficult" is different.

And you can easily spend hundreds of hours beating Morrowind, Baldur's Gate II, or any given Monster Hunter. Extreme examples on both sides of the debate are merely outliers and are not indicative of genre durations as a whole. But sites like HowLongToBeat distinctly prove how much longer RPGs and SRPGs take to beat in general versus other genres.

I agree with pepharytheworm that personal skill is an important factor in beating action based games in a timely manner.

The best players in the world take months to clear the most difficult shooters. The best. Most on this board would never beat them.

Average difficulty shooters and run 'n guns will take weeks to months for most of us.
