Alcest is awesome, but i honestly like the later, more shoegazey stuff a lot more than souvenirs d'un autre monde.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Liturgy is bad.
I do like some "post" whatever metal. The first Alcest full-length is one of my all-time favorite albums.
As for Wolves in the Throne Room (another band that gets tons of shit), I first heard them out of context - on some random sampler - and swore it was 1996-ish 2nd gen black metal. Good stuff.

That's what I meant by "first full-length" of course. French isn't my forte (nyuk nyuk nyuk).aaron wrote:souvenirs d'un autre monde.
But damn Souvenirs is good. 'Twas a blind purchase for me and I was absolutely floored. That first track sounds like the heavens have opened and fairies are spilling out. It's that all-enveloping whirlwind sound. Love it.
But yeah, their shoegaze albums are awesome too.

Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
Fear Factory's Obsolete is a pretty much perfect album (yes, even "Edgecrusher") and imo a total cohesive encapsulation of the ideas they were trying to achieve with the first two records.
The only thing that would push it completely over the top is if it had the guitar tone from Demanufacture. Fuck the guy who stole Dino's modded JCM800.
Edit: Mixed reports on what exactly Obsolete was recorded with. I'm seeing Line 6 stuff, but then there's also tales that the stolen JCM happened after recording that album. Who knows. It's still a sick tone, I just prefer the super tightness on Demanufacture.

Old Fear Factory is pretty cool. I miss classic Roadrunner.
