Sure there are older systems like the 2600 where this formula isn't necessarily true but like with all games their value is mainly centered around the quality of the content, availability, and replayability. When you have a game with very basic game play, no story, and which has had a massive print run then been rereleased a few dozen times it's value isn't really that high. Every system has unattractive games like that which just never really draw a high price some just have a hell of a lot more then others
Game collecting is not what it once was
Re: Game collecting is not what it once was
The way I see it Video game collection is much the same as it's always been. Just like everything else Prices peak, then fall, then build up again. The last generation or two is always the sweet spot for relatively cheap collecting. By the time stuff is 3 or more generations behind the present anyone who didn't have a sentimental investment in the games has already moved on and sold them off unless they forgot about them and they are stuffed in a closet or attic. So pretty much you are left to deal with people who actually have some attachment to the game or resellers who view them as investments.

It's like H.P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith just had a beautiful Puerto Rican baby up in here.

Re: Game collecting is not what it once was
There's two ways to look at this.
- I could say, "Oh man, I miss the days when I could buy Super Nintendo carts for $4. People who buy things and resell them for profit are a bunch of jerks... unless I do it. Everyone else who does it is a jerk." What a bummer thought process!
- I could say, "Wow, my collection of SNES cartridges I bought in 2007 has appreciated significantly in the past eight years. If the time comes, I could sell this for a tidy profit". On the other hand, I may have done better with mutual funds or silver commodities... but SNES carts are more fun anyway.

Come on stop quoting that fool I have him on ignore. And really good moderation job taking his side in trolling...so much for the posted rules eh? I see this must be one of those situations where some people the rules apply to, and others who are friends or former staff get a pass. Whatever.
I'm sure it will be pointed out me snapping back broke the rules as well and I really don't care as I'm tired of being called stupid when I do in fact know what I'm talking about on various subjects.

No, you don't, and the sooner you come to terms with that the sooner you can begin to actually gain real knowledge.Tanooki wrote:I'm sure it will be pointed out me snapping back broke the rules as well and I really don't care as I'm tired of being called stupid when I do in fact know what I'm talking about on various subjects.

Yeah you keep telling yourself that. The terms I've come to on this is people are going to side with their friend who likes to troll. The information I do post about the ills of the hobby sure are opinion, and I'm supposedly allowed to freely have that without being attacked. The stuff I post on modern gaming, I base this stuff off what I hear primarily from my brother who a game producer for a third party vendor that does pc, tablet and console games. So if those things come off as stupid, maybe that's endemic of how far things in modern gaming has gone. Or maybe you all don't like my tone, I get that, can't do anything about that though.
Re: Game collecting is not what it once was
Yes you can; you can use a different tone. The fact that such a solution doesn't even seem feasible to you speaks volumes about you.Tanooki wrote:Or maybe you all don't like my tone, I get that, can't do anything about that though.

It also speaks a lot when insults are thrown and my intelligence wrongly insulted when it's a tone issue if that's really what it is. The lack of will to change my tone speaks nothing about me, just that I don't see a need to accommodate rude individuals. I can behave very much different when the situation is nicer and that's why I said I can't see that changing, because I don't see the snark directed at me going away.

Using an example of the tone those critics believe they see, isn't exactly helping.Tanooki wrote:It also speaks a lot when insults are thrown and my intelligence wrongly insulted when it's a tone issue if that's really what it is.
