Alrighty... so I've been thinking about getting a Sega Genesis (never had one), but am wondering if it's really worth it. If I were to buy a Genesis, I would want to mod it so I could play imports. I've never done anything like this before, so I'm a little worried I could screw it up. Also, could someone tell me how saving with the Genesis carts works? Am I safe in assuming most games use a battery save similar to those on the Super Nintendo?
I've been thinking about just using an emulator. Normally I have a great distaste for ROMs and such nonsense, but with the prices of some of the rarer and import games (like Pulseman ) this is beginning to seem like a better and better option. I found someone selling a few USB Genesis controllers (made from official pads) that look quite pretty. How much should I expect to pay for such things? They're selling for 35 USD a unit.
Thanks guys^^!
Looking for Animal Crossing e Reader cards! - link
The sega saturn 6 button usb pads are awesome and also work with ps3.The genesis is one of the cheaper systems to collect for and the system is dirt cheap as well....that is until you get into sega cd and want those games....good luck

you should get sonic ultimate sega genesis collection that is a better choice for you it has 49 games in one disc it on ps3 and xbox 360 system
If you want to import Genesis games, it's usually just as easy as buying a Game Genie. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/genesis ... 6377/10774.
Haven't tried it myself considering how expensive imports are but it seems like a safe alternative to modding.
The Genesis/Megadrives are usually pretty cheap - in fact I have 3 PAL Model 1s. There is an alternative to modding - 5 years ago I picked my first Megadrive when I was in Dubai on honeymoon. They had them in almost every toy shop. It was newly made, based on Model 2, had some inbuilt games and feels rather cheap (light and "plasticy") but it works well. I then accidentally discovered two switches on the side - one 50/60 Hz and one for switching regions. And it cost me (brand new) about 10 US dollars. I still use it from time to play the few imports I have, but I replaced the joypads with original ones.
I use a Game Genie to play import Genesis titles. I don't go after the outrageously expensive titles that need codes to play, so it's mostly just a pop it in, press start affair.
you will be amazed at all the blast processing lol. But in all seriousness its a good choice as its very cheap to collect for until you decide to invest in a SegaCD as somebody said then be prepared to pay anywhere between 5-50 dollars on just about every game.
I'm curious as to what import titles you would be looking at. The only import I have is Zero Wing, and that just required a little modification of the console's input slot (cut some tabs) to accomodate the differently shaped cartridge.

If you go with emulation, I would buy one of the new Capcom pads made for either the PS3 or 360.
heres the PS3 one: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product ... t_id=73044
The PS3 one is supposedly 2.4GHz wireless, not sure about the 360 one.
I have been thinking about picking a couple up when I get some funds...
