Yeah brand fits. MS has it both in name that's been established in computers going back to DOS and Windows infancy and being mandatory on every single big box computer since more or less. And like it or not, as bad as the 360 was for it's failure rate the name was huge last generation and the XB Live environment which even spilled into games for windows made it even more recognizable. It is interesting not to see exclusives listed for Sony as they have a lot(will have a lot) over time more than MS would ever hope but it does have game library as a general comment though. I don't get the One being listed as higher up for processing power as it isn't true. Nintendo though really does fit the mold they have been trying to make for themselves for a long time -- fun, for kids/family, cheap, runs old stuff too, and their own games they make.

Did Neilsen do a Vita/3DS side by side as I'd love to see that data.

I don't doubt it. At this point, the only consoles that have outsold the 360 in the US are the PS2 and DS, and it could wind up beating them if MS keeps it on the market long enough.

'course, part of that could be RRoD'ed systems getting replaced, but it's still a very strong market presence here.

I do not believe Secret of Mana has aged well. When I first played it back in the 90s of course I thought it was fantastic and finished it with gusto via co-op. Not too long ago I attempted to replay it via co-op once more with my fiance. Neither of us enjoyed the game much. While the music remains amazing and the graphics are charming, the actual combat itself feels clunky and level designs were mostly meandering misleading mazes. The pacing itself felt rather grindy and the plot came off paper thin. While it's true Secret of Mana evolved the action-RPG genre a notch or two higher in its day, I don't believe this particular game is much fun to play anymore. Totally an unpopular opinion from what I've read others say.

I'm actually inclined to agree completely.

Turn the game on, and that opening piano sequence gives you the chills. Start it up, remind yourself the main character isn't Chrono, and get to wondering the meadow area with equally amazing music... The the game starts and you feel like going off and doing something else.

EDIT: Speaking of unpopular gaming opinions, I have a Secret of Mana 2 repro that I haven't started up yet. I really need to check it out at some point and see how it compares.

Mandatory tutorial levels need to die. They're worse than unskippable cut scenes.

And unskippable cutscenes are terrible. I was about to disagree with you, and say UCSes are worse, but... yeah, no, you're right
Final Fantasy IX is the best one

Secret of Mana is one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen, both musically and graphically. It is a bit clunky but I love it.

Like I said the aesthetics are still great, but what's under the hood has not aged well.

When referring to the original Game Boy, I always say it's "black & white". I know that's incorrect being that black and white is not necessarily the same as "not color", but it's still annoying when someone acts like they have no idea what I'm talking about.
