No one can say "Ys"!

My 3 year old is constantly asking to play "The Princess Peach Game", referring to Super Mario Bros. 2. When I say yes she grabs it off the shelf, opens the case, blows on it, closes the case, puts it back, and slides the game into the NES.

She blows on it not in it because she saw me do it ONE TIME when I was in a rush. Every couple months I open my cartridges and clean the contacts with Brasso and 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and clean out all the cartridge slots on my console. My games also live in closed plastic cases, so there's virtually no crap to get blown up into them.

I know how to take care of my games, and when she's old enough start cleaning them I'll teach her better LOL

Unless you're living in an open shack in the middle of the Amazon jungle, you shouldn't need to keep cleaning them that often , especially if they're staying in cases. Even then, you should only use the brasso if they're badly corroded. Brasso has abrasives, so you're scrubbing the gold plating off for no reason.

Clean carts when you first get them. Clean them and the system if there's a problem or if something happens to get them dirty. Otherwise, leave them alone.

The PS2 is 15 years old today (first launched in Japan on March 4th, 2000).

Only the best console of its generation. I still play mine on a regular basis.
It was the king of its time, but I now I finally see it as an outdated system. No HD, No HDD, No wireless controllers, no online store, no online gameplay, and many of the games got better/bigger sequels (GTA 3 -> GTA 5) or an HD update on them.

I'm afraid most of what you said about the PS2 was not true.

Some PS2 games did support HD modes:

The PS2 did have a harddrive:

There were lots of wireless PS2 controllers such as:

There were many online PS2 games:

As for later gen sequels to PS2 games, it's a subjective issue as to whether they are better or not.

I'd say the general line of thinking is accurate, far as a generational gap is concerned. Falls more into the "is the PS2 retro" thread of course, and it doesn't make it a bad console...but the implementation of all that stuff is fairly different between 6th and 7th gen in general.

Some of that is also regional, even if technically correct. The PS2 HDD was primarily supported only in Japan, and was only otherwise released in the U.S. for example. For a lot of the world, the PS2 never had one.
