I don't care what most of the world tends to say about this movie... you take out the Mario names and have a pretty imaginative out there pseudo fantasy/cyberpunk adventure. I've always liked this movie growing up, finally got around to getting it on DVD for a rewatch... it's probably been a decade since I've seen it. And I still really enjoyed it. It's so damn weird and out there, has some of the closest aesthetics to Blade Runner out there, a great cast in admittedly hilarious roles (never realized Dennis Hopper here is so Dr Evil) and yeah. I just can't really fathom how so many rage "never should have been made". What plot or idea would have made a better Mario movie? lmao. It's not Mario and I don't care, it's a fun weird zany movie.

Glad to see another person who enjoys the genius of the Super Mario Bros movie. To this day I'm still bitter we never got the sequel the ending alludes to.

Hand out the devolution guns! Prepare for destiny!

There is also a series of knock off films by various Italian directors, titled Zombi 2, Zombi 3, Zombie 4: After Death, Zombie 5: Killing Birds. Some of these films are also known under the title Zombie Flesh Eaters. A variety of other Italian films have also been given the Zombi or Zombie title, and Andreas Schnaas(of Violent Sh*t fame) has made a film called Zombi '90: Extreme Pestilence.

Since the dawn of time, man has faced a constant battle with his technology, using it to build, to aid, and to kill. But as we reach to the new digital horizon, the technology we have created may now grow to become a threat to us. Be it through AI or alien sentience, any piece of tech, the hallmark of our civilization, may come to an existence of its own and decide its only recourse is to kill. That's why yesterday I watched...

Image

KILLDOZER!

Construction workers out in the Pacific are clearing an island for a mega corporation to then develop. They must battle the elements, each other, and the alcoholism that inflicts them. But under the harsh regime of 1970s uber-corporate reality, they discover an alien entity subsiding within a meteor. And soon that alien lashes out with the most devastating weapon it can inhabit: A GOD DAMN BULLDOZER!

KILLDOZER!

It will give you thrills. It will give you chills. It will make you question whether mankind's construction equipment has become TOO POWERFUL.

Nothing can stop the Killdozer. Not high explosives. Not cranes. Not dramatically long sequences in which a bulldozer slowly bares down on someone who could simply have gotten out of the damn jeep and walked away, like that scene in the first Austin Powers movie with the road roller, only this time done with completely serious intent.

But the human spirit must persevere against all odds, be it against loneliness, the demon drink, rock music, or steadily growing insanity. Mankind must not let these poor plot devices stand in its way.

For in the grim dark 1970s of humanity, there is only Killdozer.

Actually, in Italy only Zombi 2 and 3 are official sequels. After Death and Killing Birds are actually separate films.

In England there was the "Zombie Flesh Eaters" series, consisting of Zombi 2, 3 and After Death as Zombie Flesh Eaters, ZFE 2 and ZFE 3, respectively, ignoring Dawn of the Dead.

The Thai releases also went by "Zombie Flesh Eaters", but were in the same order as the American releases (Zombi 2, Zombi 3, After Death, Killing Birds), ignoring Dawn of the Dead.

There's more info here, but it's Wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt.

In German the series was called "Zombie" and consist of Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and Zombi 3.

Yup. Several George Eastman movies(Absurd and Anthropophagus) were also released as Zombi movies at various points in the US, despite not having zombies in them whatsoever.

Last night, my wife and I watched:

Image

Housebound (2014). It is a very fun horror/comedy (from the land of horror/comedies...New Zealand). In it, a (very bad) young woman is placed on house arrest and ordered to move back into her childhood home. Her home is childhood home is haunted, however, and the young woman - with assistance from both her bad attitude and an open-minded parole officer - sets out to uncover the mystery behind the haunting. The movie transitions effectively from a "haunted house" film to a "slasher" film, and while some parts are a bit flat, it is consistently funny. (The wacky final act fits perfectly in the "Scooby Doo" mold.) Moreover, it is an original take on two familiar genres, and I recommend it to this forum's many horror movie fans.

EDIT: This movie is currently streaming on Netflix, BTW.

Currently watching Smokey and the Bandit. Jackie Gleason is a comedy genius.
