What are the best PSP Homebrew apps and games?
Because I'm tired of endless, useless Google and forum searches, I'll ask you guys. What are the best and most useful PSP Homebrew applications? The numbers of Apps I've seen is staggering and it's just annoying trying to decide what to use. For example, I've seen a whole bunch of file managers as well as what seems like an actual operating system for the PSP. I just don't know what's best to use. Downloading and trying EVERYTHING is just a huge time waster
The only real app I have on my memory stick so far is the newest version of UltimatePSPTube, which is awesome. It's simple to use and does what it's supposed to do, which is access to Youtube as well as other streaming video sites.
Also, any really great homebrew games you guys can recommend? Hopefully, ones that can run on the latest custom firmware on a PSP Slim. I've tried over and over to get Beats or Rage and PSPRevolution to run and I've just given up. I've tried eloader with no success and even tried switching my kernel to 1.5 in recovery mode. Maybe I'm installing them wrong.
I would like for this topic to be a great resource for PSP Homebrew info to help out myself and others. This forum tends to be more active and useful than a lot of other ones I've seen

the doom homebrew w/ updated graphics is awesome. Im so mad though since my PSP w/ all my emulators etc. was FORMATTED by a parental unit, then updated to full firmware (dad uses it on plane trips for video so we have to share occasionally)
Older. Not wiser.

the Neo4all Neo Geo emulator works VERY well on the psp, most games work great!
There are 3 things I don't believe in, politics and math.

A lot of the PSP's emulators are solid. I'm just not as into handheld gaming.

Re: What are the best PSP Homebrew apps and games?
I tried the Game150 folder and had no luck. None of the homebrews I've tried have worked from Duke3d to Beats of Rage to PSPRevolution. I believe these are all very old firmware homebrew, like 1.00 or 1.5, so that's probably why I'm having problems. I think a program called Time Machine might help me, but it seems pretty damn complicated to install. I really just want to play Beats of Rage. There's a Battletoads Beats of Rage mod that looks like a ton of fun. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Emulators work great on my PSP though. I've used MVSPSP for Neo Geo and it's awesome. However, a few games like Magician Lord and Waku Waku 7 give me a CRC32 error, something about a missing bin file. Other games like Sengoku 3, Shock Troopers and SvC Chaos work just fine though. I don't get it. Any of you run Magician Lord or Waku Waku 7 without any problems?
IRShell seems great, but man what a TON of features it has. It's a bit intimidating. I downloaded it, but haven't used it yet because of that. It might be a bit much for a noob like me
By the way, since this is one of the few forums on god's green earth where it's okay to ask this, what rom sites do you guys use? I'd like something clean and safe. I mostly stick with Emuasylum. Their site doesn't have any crap like pop-ups, banners, etc. everywhere. It seems like a nice, clean site. Problem is, they don't have every game I'm looking for.

older homebrews (ones that come with 2 eboots) tend to be a little harder to get to run correctly. In most cases, there's updated versions of the homebrew that (with only 1 eboot) that will run better.

Re: What are the best PSP Homebrew apps and games?
Well, I managed to get my hands on the most recent version of BOR I could find. I didn't realize at first that this was an engine only and that I needed pak files to play games, like an emulator and its roms. Wish some of those google searches had been a bit more informative. Anyway, I went searching for them and only kept finding cdi files, which pissed me off(apparently these people ONLY release files for the Dreamcast). Then I thought about doing some kind of conversion and found out I could extract the pak files. I nabbed a program to do that, ran BOR, loaded up the pak and presto! Beats of Rage on my PSP! And I got some other versions too, like the awesome Battletoads mod.
Beats of Rage is now officially the first homebrew game I've ever played...on ANY system. It's fun, as most beat'em ups tend to be for me. Damn, figuring out how to use all these different emulators and programs on the PSP homebrew scene has been a royal pain, but at least I'm educated now and playing some awesome games
Still have to figure out how to get some other homebrew apps running properly though. Duke 3d wouldn't run, or that PSP Revolution thing and now I want to play around with that SCUMM emulator as well. Always another project
