Hello
Can any one tell me more about this downgrading your firmware and brick thing?
My wii, and every wii , works well with older firmware because that is what it used to run. Now I really like to test out the homebrew channel, i did update to 3.4. So i have to downgrade to do that.
Yet there are so many warnings about bricked wii's. Why this works with some and not with others? Why my wii gets bricked when i install software it did run?
is there a way to fix bricked wii's?
if the console has a wiikey installed, does this has any effect on it?

urrgghh
This un-sure thing keeps me scared. I need to know why some are successful more than others if they are following same steps?
plus i cant take risk to "brick" my wii , simply because I am not sure what brick exactly means and if there is a way to fix it

It's when a firmware upgrade/downgrade fails completely and it breaks a device (usually) forever, resulting in a piece of hardware that's no more useful than a brick. It could be anything from not being able to complete the upgrade due to a power outage or using firmware that is incompatible with a specific device.kingmohd84 wrote:urrgghh

It's exactly the same reason I am also impatiently waiting for a general consensus that the 3.4 hack is safe to use.
Re: firmware and bricked wii's
If you don't like the risk, don't do it.
The disclaimers are there for a reason. There's nothing that you or I can say that can make it any less of a risk. Any unofficial modification carries risk. Even using third party controllers on a console has disclaimers warning you of the risk.
Personally, I inadvertently updated my Wii to 3.4, I don't know why and I don't know what game caused it but it forced me to update to continue using the Wii. I then tried the 3.4 hack and it worked the first time, then the hack said I had an incompatible system version for the hack to work (I used the EU 3.4 hack). I formatted the SD, copied the files over again and tried again and the Wii refused completely to copy the files to it's memory. I used the exact same method as before (which worked). So yeah, who knows. It almost worked for me, if that helps.

Re: firmware and bricked wii's
I hacked my Wii with the Twilight hack about a week ago. I have a 3.4 firmware update on the console. The hack worked fine, I used the the wiibrew browser, got Quake, a couple of ok shmups, some other games I didn’t care for, and a GBA emulator to play Fire Emblem with. The only main and negative difference I have detected thus far is a buzzing sound the console makes when I have a cd loaded. It’s slight and I am not ready to say that the hack is the cause, it could be a coincidence in timing. Some research has lead me to believe that it is the DVD-drive’s frame getting too close to the top of the disc, but to be fair I am still not sure and have only been paying attention to it closely for a day or so.
To be honest if you’re nervous I can understand, I was too. See what a hacked Wii has to offer and if the reward is worth the risk to you. I did it for the ability to play import games and am now eagerly anticipating Tatsunoko vs Capcom in the mail.

Re: firmware and bricked wii's
yes, but the risk seems to be that
either I install it and it is successful
Or my wii will be "brick" and I have to buy new one
its not like i am going to lose online play or saved games
I am going to lose the console!
