Apart from songs and control issues, how different is Samba on the Wii from the original?
My retro gaming confession is that I don't own a Dreamcast and regret that I've never played Samba.
Having a Wii, I was following this game's development and read the less than stellar reviews, which I normally don't put too much stock into, but the game seems universally reviled.
Is it worth picking up ($19 new!) or should I just let it go and purchase a Dreamcast someday?

If anything you should sell your wii and buy a Dreamcast.

Heh I was in the same position as you, and went ahead and got it anyways. It is a very fun game, but the controls are not spot on. Even after several attempts to play and multiple attempts to re-calibrate, it seems like it doesnt respond as fast as I'd like. Then again, I didnt switch controllers out and it also may be my lack of use of this game, and me not being used to the control scheme. But its almost like it doesnt react as fast as the player does. Not like screen lag, seen in guitar hero and DDr sometimes, but more like, going from shaking up to shaking down, either the left or the right side wont move down until the second or third shake.

My fiancée bought me this for my birthday, I'm yet to play it though. I hope the controls aren't as bad as I have heard. TBH i'm just glad to have a new game for my Wii, there's been far too little titles worth playing on it.

...Thanks for the tips. I've heard speculation that with the new motion-tech peripheral Nintendo is bringing out games like Samba might actually improve...
Re: Samba De Amigo (Wii VS. Dreamcast)
How can it? Nintendo don't support patching of games on the Wii. Without software that makes use of the motionplus device it will give 0 benefit to games released prior to it's release.

Re: Samba De Amigo (Wii VS. Dreamcast)
From my experience of owning a A Dreamcast with a copy of Samba De Amigo (with maracas) and also owning the Nintendo Wii with Samba De Amigo, I have to say the Wii is the best version on all aspects. The Wii version has shoddy controls BUT the maracas for the Dreamcast were LEAGUES worse.
Go into the game to have fun and not be the best. Go into it for the soundtrack and the wacky presentation and you will have fun.
Believe me you will not be dissapointed.

...
I find the above comment hard to believe.
Did you use the official maracas?
