I do not like Underground Gamer rant!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Just download a bit of one of the most popular torrents (just select a few files of it to download) and then leave it to seed for as long as you can. Golden Torrent weekends help a lot too.

It's quite easy if you know the system.

Way to be a douche-bag as always Mozgus. Really, put up or shut up? He mentions his experience with the site and his frustrations with it, despite going along with everything that entails it being a private tracker. You do quite your share of bitching about things you don't like, yet when someone has a less than satisfying experience with something that you enjoy or have success with, its "put up or shut up;" what the fuck. And clearly, it seems as though he tried to contribute and not just be all over the place downloading anything and everything. I would call that putting up, but what do I know I'm not lord mozgus who has uploaded over 160 gigs (omg!!!1111) while keeping a ratio above 1.2 ...
No name-calling, please.

Yep, it's tough, but it's worth it. I'll summarize my strategies, many have been covered.

1: Partial seeding. Download only a little of a popular torrent so you don't get in the hole.

2: Hop on early. Most torrents have most of their traffic soon after they're posted. Get there early and you can seed to those who get there late.

3: Featured torrents. Downloading these only costs 75% of what you download, but uploading gets you 125%. These are refreshed weekly, so combine this tip with #2.

4: Golden torrent weekends. These happen around 4 times a year. If you can wait, you can hop on that 200GB Dreamcast torrent, and get it all for free. Best part is, anything you upload still counts. (It's like a big stimulus package for the UG economy)

5: Keep as many torrents as you can open. I'm seeding nearly 70 torrents to UG. Only 2 or 3 will be active at any one time, but that's enough to keep my ratio climbing. Never delete anything if you don't have to.

Perhaps. However, that doesn't make them any more helpful.

I've never really had any problems with UG. When I saw that I wasn't going to be able to keep my seed ratio in the red, I went ahead and donated money. After all, the site needs funds to keep running, and given what I'm getting out of it, a measly $20 seems trivial in comparison. After all, if you can afford to have the fastest internet connection that Dallas has to offer, an extra $20 shouldn't break your bank.

No.

As for the OP, I reccommend downloading just a few of the Dreamcast games from the collection, the really popular ones, and let them seed continuously. I downloaded Soul Calibur, Shenmue, and others and let them seed for weeks. You can also set up your torrent download program to start automatically when your computer starts and seed in the background. I did that, and at the end of my first Golden Torrent Weekend I was a power user. :)

Realise this is a community where you serve before you're served. Just download what other people want and seed it until you get big numbers, then you can download the stuff you want. Otherwise the whole place would cave in from all the leechers.

Good luck!

word. I had a hard time getting started but it is what it is. Yeah, there are a lot of seeders and you may have to get some time in before you can download everything you want; big effin deal, if you can't wait, go buy a copy. hell, wait for a golden torrent weekend if you have to, those got my ratio above 2 in no time.

There's a free 33mb every day too, it actually helps a lot if you're just getting started.

It sounds like you had a good approach, though your starting torrent was a bit large. So let's confirm the details, shall we? You downloaded a 3.3 gig torrent which has more leechers than seeders, but you're seeding at a slow speed. Check your BT configuration. UG has some help info on their site about setting up proper settings.

What I did to get started is I noticed that a large Dreamcast Golden Torrent was in need of seeders, so I used uTorrent and only downloaded 2 or 3 games in the torrent (instead of the whole thing) that I thought would be relatively in-demand (none of that 101 Dalmatians crap). I used MvC2 and Gundam Side Story and got pretty good upload speeds for a while. I would just leave the PC on while I was away, seeding up a storm, downloading only very selectively. See, uTorrent will pop open a screen when you download the initial .torrent file. That screen lets you pick which files in the torrent you want to download. Only select the files you think will be in-demand. Yeah, there's guess work involved, but no pain no gain.

I don't comment much because I'm anti-social, but my ratio is about 4.7 right now. It helps, however, that I'm critically low on HD space and am simply not downloading much at all these days.

I shouldn't have to be "used to" it. Mozgus' comments are repeatedly uncalled for, I usually just won't make an argument over them. Name-calling aside, I may not have 5000 posts, but I am just as much a member on racketboy and I truly enjoy being on these forums, and to continually encounter his negative attitude towards everything isn't pleasant. There isn't a rule about being cynical on the forums, but maybe I'll be confronting him on each and every of those encounters, if the result is people dropping this "used to" it response to his attitude.
