Exhuminator wrote:Vagrant Story - Amazing dungeon crawler with the best graphics and combat system on the platform, killer story too. Very mature "adult" feeling game. Awesome weapon crafting. This game is only hard if you don't pay attention. Matsuno-san's magnum opus, 'nuff said.

You get better and better Exhuminator. 8)

I think Vagrant Story is Hitoshi Sakimoto's best work as well.

As the fanboy I am, I find Matsuno and Sakimotos defining and best products were the Ogre series.

Haven't had the chance to play any PS3 RPGs yet so here's my PS2, and PS1 picks. I will say that I usually prefer the RPGs that do not have random battles.

My favorites:

PS1
Final Fantasy VII
Vagrant Story
Chrono Cross
Star Ocean Second Story - not as good as Till the end of time imo, but still a great game.

PS2
Star Ocean: Till the End of time - Love this game. Back around the time it came out I remember logging so many hours into this one with all of the side content.
Xenosaga Series
Wild Arms 4
Final Fantasy XII
Grandia III - this game is a little short, but it has a fantastic story.
Dark Cloud 2
Dragon Quest VIII

Some possibly great games that I regret not having the chance to play through are: the Persona series, Digital Devil Saga, Xenogears, and Valkyrie Profile.

Managed to pick up Tales of the Abyss for a whole $1 on PS2.

Pretty great find there. I also picked up Disgaea 4 for $4 at the pawn shop on PS3.

Also got Front Mission 4 for $1. It doesn't look too interesting but for $1....it's a Square Enix title nonetheless.

Front Mission 4 is a pretty good tactical/strategy RPG with mechs. Not amazing, but good. I played and beat it back when it released.

It's amazing how cheap PS2 games are now.

Front Mission 4 is an amazing game for its niche target audience. Those of us who are into customizing mechs galore to use them in turn based strategy warfare. If you're not into that sort of thing you will not enjoy this game, as it offers little else.

I am very into that niche, and enjoyed the game, but still falls short of amazing to me. I remember really liking it but wanted more depth and customization. I think some of the mission/battle designs couldve been better at times too.
