Anyone want to do some YPbPr mods on a couple consoles? :D I got a guy who could do it, but he's in Quebec and I don't have my Canadian girlfriend anymore to help save on shipping costs, so I'm considering him a last resort...
Not offering the service, but which consoles? If you TV supports SVideo, that might be an easier and less expensive route. Even with the Component hookup the video quality of a 480i signal is a very small (if any) visual improvement over SVideo. It is when you bump up to 480p or higher for the Component upgrade to make a huge difference.

I understand that I am to blame, but having that game U-Play only pisses me off. It's especially frustrating since there's U-Play titles on Steam. Eh, at least it's only four bucks.
Bought Far Cry 3 Deluxe Edition from humble bundle, been wanting to play it for a while, and Uplay is my only choice, as i dont play FPS games on consoles.

Keyboard/Mouse for life.

While UPlay is annoying, at least i dont have to run Steam/Uplay at the same time, since the humble bundle one is Uplay only.

I'm aware that the jump from S-Vid to Component on a 240p/480i source (which is what I'm looking to have done, mostly) is minimal at best, but I think of it as future proofing. My Wega has S-Video, but when it dies or if I ever want to run my stuff on an lcd, the vast majority of them do not. S-Video is quickly being phased out, some might say it's already been phased out.

Plus, the way my setup is, the other part of my reasoning for modding (in addition to increase in video quality) is to reduce/eliminate the need for proprietary cables. So basically, if I'm already modding it (to put any jacks at all on it), why not just go for the highest end I can? Do it once and get it over with, eh?

Systems I'm looking to have done (eventually -- I'm not in any rush):

SNES (top priority)
SMS
Saturn
Dreamcast (don't know of anyone who's done it yet)
N64 (maaaaybe... I might just hold out for the HDMI mod)
GCN (they've got a prototype clone for the component cord up on GC-Forever, figure I can find some whiz to internalize it for me)
Jaguar (S-Video if I can't get component)
PS2 (This is just a matter of mounting jacks, no major mod needed)
XBox (same as above)
32X (maaaaybe... I have one done with S-Video already so way low priority)

I've already got a bunch done: Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 and 32x for S-Video (that's as good as the Ataris can pull, and that's just what I had done to the 32x), as well as my top-loading NES, TurboCD, Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CD, and Colecovision done for component.

Would also love to get my hands on one of the original Playstations that had the S-Video jack on the back, but I think those were only released in Japan, the best I know of from the US had composite only on the back and... why? (Though there's been a guy trying to get rid of one on my local craigslist for months... he's been slowly coming down from his $50 asking price, when he gets closer to $20 I might pick it up)

Good point on the future proofing due to lack of SVideo on new TVs. Another route might be one of the XRB boxes that has had good reviews.

The first PS1 consoles disc readers have the worst tracking. All PS1 consoles have the exact same connections via the PS1 output port, just have to buy the matched cable. I see no advantage to having that SVideo and RCA stereo jacks on the console when it is also in the PS1/PS2 cable.

It's my setup, a niche thing for sure. Basically, I have cords connected to the back of my TV and swap at the console side as much as possible -- saves wear and tear on the ports on my TV, especially the S-Video connection with its delicate pins. 200+ lb tv is not easy to maneuver out when I need to swap them. That's why I'm trying to eliminate proprietary cords as much as possible.

I could always use switchboxes, but with the number of systems I have... it's just not neat. I know some people on here have really impressive setups with everything plugged in at once using some pricey switchboxes, but that's not the route I've taken.

I totally get that having the jacks on the console wouldn't be advantageous for the overwhelming majority of people though.

RGT: Does Elevator Action end? Or is it one of those games that goes on forever and you just play for score?

As far as I know it goes on forever. The sequel however, does end.

I want to have as much of my PC gaming done in Steam as possible (at least until GOG Galaxy comes around) and I'm willing to have Uplay in the background with Steam.

All water under the bridge now since I was able to get a refund.
