Scratched discs
Re: Scratched discs
It's simple; people are lazy. Can't count how many times I see someone finish a dvd, open the tray, and just throw the dvd on top of the player.
Re: Scratched discs
That's what I'm saying. How fucking lazy could you be to do that? Why isn't the DVD case on top of the DVD player, or anywhere in arms reach?Luke wrote:It's simple; people are lazy. Can't count how many times I see someone finish a dvd, open the tray, and just throw the dvd on top of the player.
That's like people that are too lazy to use turning signals. IT'S RIGHT FUCKING THERE, RIGHT WHERE YOUR HANDS ARE!!!

what about the people who just leave the disc ON TOP OF the case?Ziggy587 wrote:That's what I'm saying. How fucking lazy could you be to do that? What....In the heck was he thinking?Anapan wrote:I lent a booklet of dvds to my friend cause he didn't have cable. When I visited him a week later his roommate had taped them to the walls of the living room and was using them for target practice with a bb gun.
Anyways, on-topic, I seem to have noticed that a lot of PS3 games at GameStop seem to be New games disguised as Pre-Owned products. For proof, I've bought quite a few Pre-Owned PS3 games at GameStop. Literally 95% of the time, they swapped it out with a new one. Once, I paid for a Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Pre-Owned for around $17. Had no manual in it or anything. I get it back, and it has the manual, and a little code to go online with. As if it were brand new.
This rarely happens with Xbox 360 games, though. The only time this ever happened, was with a copy of Prince of Persia (2008) I bought for $2. They swapped it with a New copy; manual and all.
As far as everywhere else, though? Kinda iffy, I suppose. It totally doesn't help that it's easier to scratch a regular disc vs. a Bluray one, though. At least from my experience.
This user really likes SEGA Saturn. Avoid at all costs.

Blu-ray spec includes a mandatory scratch-resistant layer, since the higher data density makes the medium a lot more sensitive to any scratches that do occur.SonicGamer74 wrote: As far as everywhere else, though? This just really gets me mad. I have to deal with too many dumb people. This is why they make condoms. So many people should not have been boorn. 2 dumb people make 6 dumd kids that then have 20 more retatrds.
Re: Scratched discs
Yeah hunting in the wild about 95% of the disc based games I find have at least moderate scratches. Luckily most are saveable though and at $150 a personal resurfacing machine isn't to bad an investment. Around here the market is getting really saturated with broken beyond repair dvd movies and games. Most of these resellers/pawn shops don't check out the games individually when they buy bundles so I find games with shattered disc, no game in case, and etc. all the time which is just a waste of shelf space.
However while I dig the scratch resistant surface on the blu rays I'm running into more and more damaged discs now which worries me. Not only am I seeing scratched Blurays but also Brays that look perfectly fine at a glance but have indentions into the protective layer upon closer inspection. I think people are getting even more careless with their games now that they think they are invulnerable. The sad thing is one a Bluray disc is damaged all that can really be done is really light buffing which doesn't help much. The annoying thing is out of the 3-4 damaged PS3 games I have gotten most of them will play for hours without issues only to suddenly hit a brick wall of loading problems mid game and crash the system. The most recent game I have had this happen with is Red Dead Redemption GOTY edition the disc was completely scratch free but upon closer inspection there was one probably a 1-2 millimeter indention at one point on the edge. Literally got around 8 hours in when the game completely shit the bed and I had to restart on my 360 copy.
One thing I would like to see as well is how long an average DVD lasts in the Red Box rental business. Out of the last 5 movies which I have rented most of which had only been available a week or two prior to my rental I would say 4/5 were heavily scratched, 5/5 had at least one point in the film that got pix elated due to being unreadable, and 1/5 had to be returned for credit due to being completely unreadable

Re: Scratched discs
I worked at a place that had rentals before. There were certain customers we had to deny renting to because they'd fuck up discs regularly. Sometimes new popular stuff would make it through the initial rush fine and other times they'd be toast within the first few rents.Fragems wrote: One thing I would like to see as well is how long an average DVD lasts in the Red Box rental business.

Re: Scratched discs
I did get a copy of Armored Core 4 for PS3 from GS that of course was scratch free, but when i got home, i found a few nicks / gouges in it. It seems to work fine, but it does look like someone went out of their way to damage it.Fragems wrote:However while I dig the scratch resistant surface on the blu rays I'm running into more and more damaged discs now which worries me.
