After recently getting back my original white XB360 from my brother after many years, i've shocked by how loud and unbearable that console is. I had bought an XB360 Slim after giving my brother the original white 360 and it had since RROD and been repaired and fitted with a replacement 3rd party fan. I had left my slim for my nephew and got the white 360 from my brother and, again, was floored by how unbearably loud the fan is. Anyone else still rocking an original model XB360? I think I could stand it if it were in a cabinet or tucked away but in the open I just cant stand it. I tried replacing the 3rd party fan with another fan but it was just as loud.
Any work around for the base model 360 noise? I still have love for the console, but man did they mess up with the hole jet turbine sound scheme.
I recently got the XB360 slim back and in comparison, is completely silent. I'm on a whole new level of appreciate for the revised models.
Note: I replaced the fan with a Whisper Fan 360 and it's still too loud.

Re: Model 1 XB360 fan noise control?
The original 360 models are notorious for being annoyingly loud. There's nothing you can do about it to the best of my knowledge. This drove many people to put the things in a cabinet and close the door to muffle the sound. And that is part of the reason so many of these devices succumbed to the RROD. Yes the system's loud cooling system caused people to put their 360 in an environment that nullified its cooling system's purpose, kinda ironic.
My advice is to get a Model E 360. The final revision of the console. It's the one I have now and the fan is nowhere near as loud as the other models IMO.

Yeah, it comes down to just poor design choices. I just never remember it being loud when I first owned it but that's probably because I had nothing to compare it to. I mean the original xbox was relatively loud? But the 360 is certainly louder. I do fortunately own a newer slim model and it's worlds better, but it's a shame that the original console is deemed unplayable purely because it's so damn loud.
