Fixed- Firefox is being mean to me :/

Post by nightrnr »

So firefox is having issues displaying certain websites correctly (even its own).
Here's and example:
Image
Has a similar problem with Twitter.

I've restarted, reinstalled/updated firefox, refreshed firefox, deleted cache and cookies, started in firefox's safe mode (no addons), done searching a couple hours of searching for a solution, and now I'm out of ideas.

I really hate it when I can't figure out what is obviously a minor issue, but I really am stuck.
Anyone know what might be the problem?

I've had pages downgrade themselves to look like that when they're going horribly slow and all the script things aren't getting their information or are crashing. Perhaps there's just slowness to those sites right now? Else maybe try resetting FF?

The other PC in my house runs windows 8 and twitter and firefox sites are just fine on that one.
Mine is still on XP
(ever notice how "XP" could be a "dead" smilie :) ).

I've been on the Firefox help page several times, but thanks for redirecting me there. In the course of re-reading a few things, I came across the troubleshooting page.
I've been there too, of course, but this time I noticed my Graphics info.

This might be my problem:
a couple items show this message:
"Blocked for your graphics driver version. Try updating your graphics driver to version 9.6 or newer."

I'd rather not update, since last time I did that something went terribly wrong with my PC and I had to roll back the driver.
I figured that they had stopped updating the old ATI cards anways...
But maybe the latest one is okay?

I'll try it and see if it solves anything (or makes it worse :?)

You're surfing the net with XP? Are you mad? I imagine whatever the last XP drivers for some video card are stabilized since they're probably a yearish old too.

Quite

From what I'm reading:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting/B ... cs_Drivers
Firefox is now requiring a higher driver version than is even available for my graphics card :|
I am half convinced that this is my problem.

I will...consider updating my PC in the near future.
Until then, Firefox limitations and twitter can bite me :P .

--EDIT--
Okay, so I finally found the major problem:
I've had my PC in sleep mode a few times this last week and it messed with my date and time. I thought I had fixed it, but was off on the day when I did it.

Twitter displays fine now.
I feel stoooopid

Wow. Thanks for posting the fix. I'd have never guessed.

Here's a trick I found to fix the search bar from the chrome-like behavior where you gotta type the search and then click the button bar to use your other search engines.

Type about:config in the url bar
Click Ok
Type "Oneoff" in the filter and set the result to false.
Fixed!

Yeah, I've had to mess around with a couple boolean values before. I completely forget what the issue was, but was glad for whatever troubleshooting faq I was reading at the time.

I can usually find my own answers with a good search,
The trick is recognizing the answer when I come across it.

I had already been advised by one faq to check the date; but it was actually noscript that really tipped me off on the issue. I was trying to reinstall it after my firefox reset and it outright told me it had problems with the time setting.

Firefox and Twitter are so passive aggressive when they are upset  .
