Thanks!

So Gunstar got me thinking... what in the hell happened to Tecmo in the 90s anyway? They were money in the bank in the NES era, right up there with Capcom and Konami. On the SNES they only did sports games, the disastrous Secret of the Stars, the pointless Ninja Gaiden Trilogy... and that's it. A quick glance at Genesis games shows they didn't do much for them either.

Well they released Strato Fighter, a really great arcade shmup.

And then they didn't port it.

Pretty cool list even though mine would be very different. It's interesting that most of the big SNES releases were one shots... we only got one Zelda, one Metroid, one true Super Mario World, and others like F-Zero as mentioned, etc.

What's a sequel we never got on the SNES that I wanted? Blaster Master! I don't really care for the Genesis game, but the NES one is one of my all time favorites. I always wonder what an SNES one could have been like. Metroid's upgrade to Super was outstanding, so I can only imagine...

For me I think it would have been nice to get another Zelda and Metroid. The one thing about these two on the SNES, is that I still think to this day they had the coolest looks and style. I guess that makes them more unique and standout more, but another game for both with similar graphics (and music) and some new changes would have been so amazing. I can't think of a single case where I think the GBA look for some sequels was better...

That's a great one. Dang, I have to make a list of NES games that never got the SNES treatment that absolutely should've (Blaster Master, Ninja Gaiden, Crystalis, StarTropics...)

Enjoying all your videos and due to your SNES Mouse Supported Games Video, I am now enjoying the SNES version of Arkanoid. Oh this game is sweet with Mouse analog accuracy; better then the NES version with the Vaus Spinner.

Are you planning another installment of SNES Imports? Check out Super Gussen Oyoyo 1 and 2, a great series that should have gotten a US release. I have both carts and on the hunt for the PS1 versions, also import only.

Thanks! I'm working on Super Famicom RPGs Part 3, which is taking freaking forever. Might not be up for a long while

With the contributors in this thread's permission, I'd like to blatantly steal the idea of a Best SNES Games That Never Were video.

Blaster Master, Ninja Gaiden, Crystalis, River City Ransom, DuckTales (could've been a badass platformer/RPG hybrid), Kid Icarus (this one still puzzles me), Base Wars, Metal Storm...

These are just off the top of my head and I'm probably forgetting that some of these have 16/32-bit sequels on other systems

IDK if it's too late to suggest anything for your upcoming SFC video, and IDK if I've already thrown this one at you, but here we go...

Shin Nekketsu Kouha - Kunio-tachi no Banka

There's a fan translation for it, too, but for whatever reason they didn't give it a proper English title (I wish that they had - I have no idea what that title is). The translation was done by Aeon Genesis, and I learned pretty quickly that they make great translations.

It's a beat em up game with some light RPG elements. It doesn't do what River City Ransom does, but IIRC you do gain abilities along the way so it's sort of like leveling up. It plays really good. I like the combat in Super Double Dragon a lot, but that game feels like you're moving through molasses. This has engaging combat, but it moves a lot smoother. It doesn't do blocking like in Super Double Dragon, but you can stomp people after you knock them down. I always thought that was funny.

You should check it out. Whether or not you decide to use it in a video or not, check it out anyway. It's an enjoyable game. I haven't played all the way through it, but I've played the first 30 minutes of it several times. I need to give it a proper play through one of these days. From one I understand it's a pretty lengthy game, as far as beat em ups go. There's a password system, but thank God it's only 4 characters.

Thanks Ziggy! The games on the next video are set (SMT 1 and 2, Romancing Saga 3, Cyber Knight 1 and 2, Energy Breaker, Front Mission and Front Mission Gun Hazard) but the next one is wide open. I'll add that game to the list

Sounds great. There were so many games on the NES that didn't make the next-gen transition.

I wonder what happened to Tecmo during that period too. I'd be curious to hear an answer.
