Wow, I've been here six years now. I've never stayed on an online community so long - usually whatever attracted me to a site changes after two or so years.

Six years is also how long I enlisted for, so it kind of puts that in perspective. I'm gonna be stuck here for what feels like another age, lol. And they said time flies when you become an adult...

When did you get stationed in Japan?

I'm coming up on 7 years. Grown from an idiot teenager into an idiot adult in that time. I'm just smarter about vocalizing the stupid shit I come up with.

You're right. The second I hit 20 and got a job life hit the fast forward button. Turned 21 in October in a flash and now here I am and almost a 3rd of the way around the Sun towards the next one and it actually feels like it's only been a week or two. Crazy stuff. At this rate, no wonder people say life is short.

Some things don't change though. While I'm keen to kick myself in the ass time and time again I still have issues with self loathing that can cripple me mentally for a while. I'm desperately trying to overcome this spurt. I know it'll pass but I really just want to sleep all day and night right now.

I feel for Forlorn Drifter in that sense. The feeling can be utterly compromising.

And at the end of the day, it really is hard to listen to other people when you feel that way. Only way I've found to deal with it is to stick my fingers in my ear while screaming "lalala CAN'T HEAR YOU BRAIN". Maybe kick up Jet Set Radio (Future) soundtrack to drown it out.

When did you get stationed in Japan?

December last year. Of the three AF bases in Japan this is the best one, the one by Tokyo (and the one with no Marines), so I was pretty stoked to come here. I'll be here until December next year.

I was actually saying the opposite. Life seemed to go faster and faster up until I moved out on my own, and now it's slow again. I think that's mainly due to how the military works though; there's always something new coming up you have to wait for. Completing training, changing bases, putting on higher ranks, waiting to complete your service obligation. I never seem to get myself into any kind of comfy groove.

Maybe kick up Jet Set Radio (Future) soundtrack to drown it out.
