I've got a friend who recently came into a Naomi 2 setup. I don't know much about Naomi, but I offered to help because I often don't think things through.
He has a Naomi 2 setup with GDRom in a conversion cab. It is currently set up for 2l6b.
He has a copies of Marvel Vs Capcom 2, as well as Guilty Gear X, and he wants to set up the cabinet for 2l12b. But we're kind of at a loss as far as how to do it.
The quick answer on the internet was "Get a CPS2 kick harness" but that doesn't work on the Sega JVS I/O board that he has.
His I/O is a 838-13683-02. It looks like this:
http://www.tms-designs.com/theshed/defa ... ockid=1854
(I believe the schematic is for a Rev.B I/O board, as the board in question doesn't have JP1)
From what i've read, the Sega I/O board A wants you to pull buttons 4 & 5 from JAMMA pins 25 & 26 and then get button 6 from the kick harness. However, my friend claimed to have tested a CPS2 harness on there and was unable to get output from any buttons (as long as the connector made enough contact, the wiring should've matched up to get button 6)
The only thing I can think of is that the schematic is listing VCC on the first pins. Is the kick harness supposed to carry voltage? (I'm obviously not going to test that unless someone could tell me that it definitely does.)
We're about 50 miles apart. I'm heading down there in a couple days to take a look at it myself, I just want to get as much knowledge about it as I can before I go. Any help is definitely appreciated!

You simply need a Capcom I/O board.

Do you need a Capcom I/O? I know it's certainly easier with one.
If so, why have that header on the Sega I/O?
If that's truly the case, would be be able to grab one of these Capcom I/O's from LegendHK:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CAPCOM-I-O-JAMM ... 2a4bce0d23
and use it in his US cabinet? I don't know where there would be a problem with it, but I would want to be certain before I advised someone else to spend their money on it.

Re: NAOMI 2, Sega I/O (A) - Adding Buttons 4-6?
One bump before I head over there tomorrow morning!
I found a sega conversion manual, but it was in Japanese.
It has a drawing of a similar I/O (different layout from rev.b) and it shows JP1 near the chip in the center of the board. JP1 is what appears to set the CN3 header between the billboard and button settings.
Problem is, JP1 doesn't appear to be in that place (or in the place it is on the rev.b board) from the pictures I was sent of the I/O. Is this just not possible on a rev.a board?
I've got a kit together to add two buttons to the JAMMA harness and i've got a handful of loose JST connectors to try and make something work with CN3. Any tips to get this working would be appreciated!

Re: NAOMI 2, Sega I/O (A) - Adding Buttons 4-6?
Got buttons 4 & 5 off the JAMMA harness and they work fine for Marvel Vs Capcom 2 as well as Guilty Gear XX Accent Core.
JP1 is on the board to switch the header to accept the extra buttons.
Couldn't get button 6 to register off the CN3 header, but it looks like I was going off the wrong pinout (rev.b).
Found numerous mentions of people online getting this setup to work for 6 button games. Things are looking well so far!

Glad you are making progress. I'd still get the MUCH more reliable capcom I/O. They don't fry out, have a voltage dial, and have metal shielding.
BUT - do not pay $118 on ebay for one! Either contact HKL directly (I can send you the email if you want); or I can get you a clean one for you for $85-ish the next time I do an order.

Yeah, I checked the HKL site first and saw them for ~$80 shipped. Posted the ebay link mostly for the picture/description. I mentioned to the guy that he could probably pick one up there on the cheap, but after snagging a couple games i'm thinking he doesn't want to spend much more on the cab at the moment.
It certainly would be easier, and save some headaches to put the Capcom I/O in. I just don't want to tell him that he must get one if he doesn't have to. And if he's not going to buy one, i'd just like to do my part to help him get the original one running. I can't imagine anyone there is more excited to have a Marvel Vs Capcom 2/Guilty Gear XX AC arcade than I am.
Does the Capcom I/O have a voltage dial for the 3.3v? The trim for the 3.3 on their power supply is wrecked (and it's somewhat on the high side), that might be even more reason to snag one.
