I was hoping to transfer the data from my old 3DS to the New 3DS, so my question is does anyone know what size SD card the old 3DS XL came with? I know the New 3DS XL comes with a 4GB microSD and I just want to make sure that the old 3DS XL came with the same size (or smaller) before I transfer.
The launch 3DS came with a 2GB card iirc. My Smash Bros 3DS XL came with a 4GB SD card, which I think they all come with now. You'll be able to do the transfer.
Considering the New 3DS doesn't even come with a charger (that's $10 plus shipping from Nintendo's online store btw), I'd be surprised if it came with an SD card at all.

It comes with a 4 GB Micro SD card, as has already been said.
You realize that the original XL didn't come with a charger in PAL regions either right? In Japan, they haven't been including chargers for even longer than that. Don't get me wrong, I think it's stupid too, but America is late to the party on being outraged by this one!

Indeed. And cheers for the info. That's good to know. Do you know if pre-installed games are transferred? (my XL came with Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed)

I got my hands on one at a local Best Buy. The right nub thing I am Not a fan of. I was thinking it was more loose but as someone here pointed out it does feel like the mouse nub from the Thinkpads of old.
To be fair, is it not a standard mini usb input? I haven't checked, but would generic chargers work with it? If so, I already have a million of them, so if it decreases the cost of buying the system a little, I can't complain... (Edit: OK, just checked and looking at it, I'm not sure if it is a generic input after all).
Anyways, I'm currently playing the waiting game. My New 3DS XL is here and I'm transferring from the old.

Proprietary, even if it may not look it, so no you're screwed. You can use anything from I believe the DSi, DSXL and other 3DS model systems to charge it. They're usually $5~ used and $10 new from their online store.
We may be late to the party on getting screwed but it doesn't make it any easier. Maybe when their next console comes out, you can buy it, bring it home, and find no way to hook it up. Call Nintendo, they'll sell you the HDMI and power cords for $19.99+shipping. It's a real dick move.
The most annoying thing for me is, the writing warning you that the AC Adapter has to be bought separately is really small on the back of the box. As a gamer and an adult, fair enough, I'm aware of this (and have an adapter anyways, as I'm a previous 3DS owner), but could you imagine poor parents having to deal with crying children on their Birthdays or Christmas day because they hadn't realised the power adapter has to be bought separately?

one hour after Timmy's birthday present has been opened
Timmy: "The battery is dead and this New 3DS doesn't have a charger!"
Mom: "Oh well, Timmy here play with my old iPhone then."
Timmy: "Okay."
Mom: "I am ordering the charger now."
Timmy: "Wow there's so many games on the App Store!"
1 week passes
Mom: "Here's your charger Timmy, now you can play your New 3DS."
Timmy: "Does New 3DS have Minecraft? Because I'm playing that right now."
Mom: "According to Siri, no it doesn't. It has Mario though!"
Timmy: "Can I keep this iPhone though?"
Mom: "I don't care, that's last year's model."
Timmy: "I think I'll just keep playing Minecraft on my iPhone then."
