SEGA genesis model 3 no sound

Post by fredthezombie »

So I got a genny model 3, plugged it in, no sound, using rf or av doesn't change anything so I know it's not the cords, any suggestions?

That's not much of an answer, but I have all 3 models including both CDs, excluding the CDX. I would like to have a fully working 3rd model To satisfy my curiosity.

Actually it has the exact same sound hardware as the later revision Genesis 2 (meaning everything's integrated into a single ASIC), it's just that the Genesis 3 doesn't have stereo audio. The audio quality is actually just fine, just that it's in mono.

Hi Fred the Zombie. I'm going to go over a few simple items just for the sake of ruling out the obvious. I'm kind of stabbing in the dark here, so I'm basically using a combination of hit/miss and elimination in attempt to diagnose your Genesis.

Does your TV set produce sound when something else is plugged into that port? Have you made sure all the contacts are clean, and free of corrosion? Is it possible that any nearby electronic devices may be emitting radiation that interferes with your Model3 Genny? Have you tried this Genesis on a different TV set? Have you tried a different set of RCA composite/mono (not rf over coax) cables? Does this problem apply when only one certain cartridge is loaded, or does it apply equally regardless of what cartridge is in the slot?

Hope we can help, or just find something that you may have accidentally overlooked. A second set of eyes makes difference sometimes.

I figured out so thing, if I turn the tvs volume up really load I can hear some of the game music and sound, I had a similar issue with my game gear but I don't know how this two are relatable here. Ever heard of anything like it?
