As long as I have emulators and re-releases, I'm happy. It's certainly a lot more expensive to collect these days though. Games I turned down 4-5 years ago because they were too expensive at $10-20 are now going for $30-40.

What do you really think it's going to be like in the future say, 5-10 years from now?

I predict prices will hit a peak. But maybe they will keep rising. Who really knows? I just hate how all the resellers at the flea markets are going off eBay prices. They are the collectors worst enemy.

It's never going back to where it was, so I wouldn't count on that. At most things might flatten out and stabilize.

I don't envy anyone trying to get into retro game collecting these days

'Cause the only reason stuff was cheap and easy to stumble upon in the past is because most people didn't realize there was a retro game collecting market in the first place. People aren't going to just up and forget that the market exists now that everyone knows.

i blame pawn stars and storage wars lol.

there was a post hating on people who resell that aren't even gamers or whatever and that was to blame. so if you come across something you could flip but you're not in the hobby you should just pass? that's just stupid.

IDK I'd say researching and immersing yourself in a hobby for the sole purpose of profiteering is kinda tasteless.

There are a lot of us on the board who run a zero-sum or close to zero-sum game with the hobby by buying and flipping various size lots that contain dupes of things we have or games that we know we don't want. It is ideal to do this with larger lots, of course, but the principle applies to smaller lots too. They really do still come up somewhat often - either here or on eBay or Craigslist or whatever - and can be a good way to offset/account for what are otherwise pretty wildly fluctuating market values for certain games, platforms, etc.

that's not what i'm saying. if i'm going to yard sales or thrift shops i'm checking out more than just games, anything of value. i don't see how making a few bucks is tasteless if people are willing to pay, to each their own though.

I've always been intrigued by the lot buying guys. How does it work? Why do you even type in on eBay? I'm clueless but it's something I would be highly interested in doing. For the sole purpose of obtaining games that I want and getting duplicates to sell.
