PS1 games work great on the PS3, it's a great way to replay some.
For under $20 yesterday I picked up MGS, Tomb Raider 1 and 2 and Gex - which I played originally, then sold them (dumbass) and now re-bought minty copies.
PS1 Backwards Compatibility on PS3
Re: PS1 Backwards Compatibility on PS3
That is why i own the mostly B/C 80GB first GEN ps3. The new ones IMO are just dumb.

Why would you say that?
I can live without extra USB ports and SD slots etc. and save $150 on a console.
The $150 can buy a PS2 and shitload of games if anyone is worried about their non-BC system, plus, people will feel burned if and when Sony adds a BC firmware update.
But this thread is about PS1, so I digress...

Re: PS1 Backwards Compatibility on PS3
The PS3 has two options for playing PS1 games. You can play in 4:3 or widescreen, and there's a smoother in the upscaler you can turn on or off. Without the smoothing the games can look really pixelated on an HDTV, but with the smoother they pretty much look like they did on a tube TV.
PS1 BC on the PS3 is easy and universal in my experience.

Re: PS1 Backwards Compatibility on PS3
Apparently, there are some PSX games that won't work on a PS3. I believe the Lunar games are such an example. Honestly, I don't know for sure, because I don't have those games. My collection of PSX games, which includes a lot of fighters and RPGs, seems to work just fine.

I got a non-BC PS3 because I wanted to save money, but not just for that reason. It's also because I knew, very well, that I would continue to have my PS2 hooked up. Unless Sony decides to release an update that region-unlocks the PS1/PS2 emulation, I'll still have plenty of reason to keep my PS2 and slide card around.

Hell, guess I need to repost these links:
http://www.ps3comp.com/view.asp?console=psone
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
Try looking up specific titles in there. I found that at least Poy Poy 2 doesn't work.

thank god for smoothing. If only TV's had it built in!

There IS a USB to PS2 adapter, made specifically for the PS3. I've seen them all over eBay, and even xgaming.com's X-Arcade adapter for the PS3 is just a PS2-to-PS3 controller converter.
