Suggest a children's game

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello

I got a niece that is around 5 years old, and i am trying to buy a kiddie game that should would enjoy for the wii. Problem is I don't want to buy a game that when I pop in she would look at then she would move on to do something else, u know how kids are with stuff that does not appeal to them. My money will go to waste specially that I could buy something for me.

I am not sure if I just should go the franchise way(if she likes ice age, buy ice age game) or actually get her a good game even if it is not cartoon. Does any one has any experience with wii and children at that age?

for a tip
I did put in wii sports and she was not amazed by motion control much. Now hold on to hear this amazing thing...

The thing she loves to do is to play mario 64! and they say the controller was bad.
she keeps asking to play it every time she sees me although all that she do is run round using the analogue . She even enjoys playing with mario's face at the start screen(remember when this was cutting-edge technology).
maybe this would help?

One of my sons is 5 and really likes Mario 64. My older son (7) really used to like it too but he's more interested in other games right now.

Bear in mind that I don't have a Wii, and that I have all boys, but these are some of the games my kids like that either have Wii versions or can be played via virtual console or as a gamecube disc:

Mario 64
Donkey Kong Country games for SNES
Lego Star Wars (and probably the other games of the franchise). This is a big hit for them, and because of the way the cooperative play works with its drop outs, it can really work with kids of different skill levels.
Mario Kart (esp. N64 version)
Super Mario Sunshine (although it can be a bit tough for a 5 year old)
Luigi's Mansion

If I can think of others I'll add them later.

edit: took off a couple after checking and seeing they're not available on the virtual console.

For a 5 year old?

Boogie, Samba de Amigo, Animal Crossing, Zack & Wiki or Cooking Mama - all games my kids enjoy. Yes, I know Boogie sucks.

Or, try Manhunt 2. Kidding.

Our 3 year old enjoys Go Diego Go: Safari Rescue. It's basically a side-scroller. You hold the remote horizontally and tilt the sides up and down (like a seesaw) to move Diego left/right across the screen. There's some gesturing too -- shake a tree, push a boulder, play a drum, etc.. Pretty intuitive. It was hard to find something other than Wii Sports that he could control.

Zack and Wiki is hard. I think it's too hard for a 5 year old. It looks nice and appeals to kids but the actual game will probably be unplayable for them.

Is there Kirby Adventure for the NES on virtual console? Kirby is a huge hit with kids!

There's a Dora the Explorer game on the Wii. I can't vouch for quality as I've never played it but usually kids that age don't really care if IGN happens to rate a kids game 3/10.
