Anyone watch One Way Out?

Post by SpaceBooger »

Its the new show on Discovery showing an escape artist training and practicing crazy death defying escapes.
Its pretty crazy, odd, but something you can't stop watching.

I'm so freakin' tired of what Discovery, History, and Science Channel's have turned into.

"Reality style "dangerous" job shows"
"Uncreative takes on what would be a descent documentary, but is beefed up with stupid visual shots and no information"
"BOOM BANG, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD... shows"
"Mythbusters... two guys that don't understand the logical process of hypothesis, experiement, conclude... with titties!"

What the hell happened to documentaries? You know, unbiased, informative, teach you something cool, docu-fuckin'-mentaries!?

No because if something isn't blowing up, being eaten by a shark, or bringing a man with in inches of his death... it ain't for us... Discover Channel!

I can understand doing this for primetime... you want viewers at primetime. But I tune in at noon, or 4 am, or something like that. What do I get? "Mythbusters Marathon". Oddly of the 3 episodes I've seen in my life, I always see the SAME 3 episodes!!!!!

I get a kick out of the odd Mythbusters episode, but I find the programming to be falling into a shit-abyss lately

AGH! The dreaded "capitalism" word.

Now I'm going to have nightmares.

"You know, *insert any form of government theory* sounds great on paper, but in action it always just fails."

Maybe we just fail as people. It is the only like variable.

My wife and I were having this conversation the other day. We both remember growing up on those documanteries and they really sparked my interest in nature and science, particularly the rain forest documentaries. I loved watching those leafcutter ants and learning about their habits. Nothing flashy about it, but it was definitely informative and strangely relaxing.

I didn't care for it much. When I first heard of a show about escape artists I though "oh cool" but this show is pretty lame. They're like clones of the two guys from Time Warp, another show I can't stand to watch. If for no other reason, when they slow things down they add these stupid sound effects as if THATS what it sounds like in slow motion. I just can't stand it. It gives me that kind of nails on the chalkboard feeling.

Every now and again you can find something good on those channels. About...a year ago I think, they showed the old NASA footage from the first space flights. Not a documentary, per se, but still some very interesting stuff. As for other shows...well, last time I caught Modern Marvels on History Channel, they were talking about sprinkler technology. I figured at that point they had run out of ideas.

I do miss shows like Mail Call. A showcase of military tech from various historical periods around the world? Sign me up! I was also partial to the old war shows on History Channel. Last one of those I saw was the Enterprise 360, supposed to be a 360 view of what happened to the USS Enterprise during WWII. I don't know how accurate it really was, as I don't know what information it was basing itself on to figure out exact placements of things, but it did have some good information, like how the USS Enterprise fit into the Doolittle Raid and various Pacific naval battles.

I miss when we had a reason to call it the Hitler Channel.

Capitalism isn't a form of government. It's an economic theory.

And yes, people fail all the time. People are greedy and stupid. Capitalism just seems to be the only economic system that acknowledges that people are greedy and stupid by having motivators and consequences. There may be others that do this; I'm no economist.

I'm a big fan of it myself, even if it does mean that a couple of television networks will kind of suck and be filled with dumb programming. If you want the old-style Discovery stuff and are willing to pay for it, you still have the choice of subscribing to the National Geographic channel or something.

But yeah, Mythbusters is pretty weak.

Hey, Mythbusters is doing something for a broad audience that hasn't been done for a while- so what if they smudge their "experiments?" It's supposed to inspire and entertain the people who already know that crap!

Granted, I haven't watched it recently with their little "young attractive team," though...

I'm not defending the others, however. Ice Truckers? Deadliest Catch? Ax Men? (wait, ax men was pretty cool actually- after you figure out how they do stuff up there in the wilderness). What's will all the damn SHARKs or- The most EXTREME Animal Show? It's about as exciting as the tornado survivor stories on the Weather Channel.
