I love Tower of the Shadow of Death. Stone-cold jam, that.

For the past month or so I've been obsessed with Column Dive from Columns III: Revenge of Columns (GEN). That sweet FM synth gives me all the good feelings.

I've also been really into the soundtrack to Pulseman (MD). It's by Junichi Matsuda, and it ranges from super sweet to super bizarre. You can also hear some motifs in those tracks that pop up later in the Pokémon games, which is really cool.

Super sweet: Voltage Algorism

Shades of the Pokémon R/B Gym Battle Theme: Neo Tokyo (particularly at 0:33)

There's a whole mixtape of different pop stars set to Mario Kart songs. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan, but I know a bunch of our board members are, so I figured I would post this for the mashup of "Shake It Off" and Mario Kart 64's "Choco Mountain" theme. "Star Busta" probably made me laugh the most though, which is Busta Rhymes rhyming at his ridiculously fast speed over the Mario Star Power music.

Anyone have any good YouTube playlists saved with good, non traditional (DK, Chrono Trigger, other nintendo classics) VGM? Everytime you try searching for VGM, you really just get the typical selections (not a bad thing, i'm just trying to discover new stuff). Looking for good OST's from more offbeat systems such as PCE/Jaguar/or even Saturn? Recent OST's I've enoyed: Raiden II, Y's I & II, Genpei Tōma Den, Space Harrier, and Phantasy Star II(really enjoy the PSII OST).

I don't know if you'd be into plain audio, but The Legacy Music Hour Podcast features 8-bit and 16-bit VGM in their episodes, and I've been helping them release music-only compilations of their episodes' setlists as a sort of spinoff effort.

Each of these "mixtapes" typically contains about twenty tunes, runs between 30 and 50 minutes, and goes from track to track without filler. Most setlists are themed, too, which is fun. We've published seventeen of them so far, releasing every other week. Just scroll down a bit and you can see the mixtape posts.

You'll have to check their track listings on the original podcast episodes to identify the tunes on a mixtape, though, as the songs aren't identified within the compiled audio itself. They always provide the link for those in their posts, though, so they're easy enough to find.
