That's why I research all this stuff in advance now. As mentioned on the new post for this month, Shmups forum lets them do it, so I've got no problems with it. It looks more like a matter of personal preference here, if you can get more shots off with Type A or C without it, it might be better to shut it off then, because Type B uses that Truxton-style lightning shot that wouldn't really be affected by it. It's up to you.

Well, like Dunpeal said, Type C you would be at a disadvantage using autofire because you wouldn't be able to switch between the two shots.

But my question wasn't should/should it not be allowed, that was already established, it was more scoring mechanic-wise, is it worth more to destroy certain enemies with holding A as opposed to tapping A (i.e. Deathsmiles). It seems this is not the case.

FWIW, all three characters move at the same speed regardless of fire rate or ship type.

I remember vastly preferring the Special version of this game. Might give the OG another shot.

Anyway, here's a Special score:

TSTR - 2,549,210 - Stage 5 - Type B - MAME

Hold on -- isn't Batsugun Special only available on the Saturn? Don't be confusing me now

Ok, and would I be safe to assume that the Special version on the Saturn is the same thing? It would just be easier to have Normal (MAME/Saturn) and Special (MAME/Saturn) scoreboards, just 2. I'll have those up by the weekend.

Special Version score:

'Tate that, AND PARTY!
Nyukki - 2,811,410 - Stage 5 - Type B - FBA

It's always the runs where I lose two lives on stage 1 that I do best. First time I've made it to stage 5 in a non-practice run too. Still too much panic bombing on stage 4, especially the part near the end where the big planes come in from the bottom of the screen and on Jupiter. Plus not familiar with stage 5 at all yet.

No auto fire, btw. 8)

Right then, so I'll jump in.

ExedExes - 1,230,130 - Stage 4 (Boss) - Type C - MAME (Normal)

So I started with Type C because I heard it had 2 kinds of shots. Cool idea! Spread for when you need it, concentrated forward shot with more power when you don't. When it gets to Level 3, the spread shot even has some that follow enemies! Good for brutal Stage 4. I didn't even get to the milking spot. So it's not that easy after all!

Anyone else notice the *bee* on the high score screen? Shades of things to come for Toaplan......
