Well you said Most not Every, so you don't have to include the 3 OG Gameboy ones (which don't get me wrong, I love the series, are just bad)...Xeogred wrote:Where's the 2015 goals thread...
I think I want to make it a goal to tackle most of the non-Metroidvania Castlevania's this year. I've only beaten Super Castlevania IV I believe, though I've cleared out the Metroidvania's.
This is what I'm thinking
- Castlevania 1-3
- Bloodlines
- Dracula X and Rondo of Blood
- Chronicles
Props to you for including Chronicles, aka "Castlevania 1 is way too easy," although you're leaving off CV64/Legacy of Darkness for the N64.
Obviously there's the LoS trilogy which is definitely not Metroidvania. Arguably the PS2 ones aren't either (and I really liked Lament), there's really not much backtracking or acquiring of new abilities in them.

Re: Castlevania Appreciation Thread
These are all the Castlevania's I own (bragger alert)
Nes:
Castlevania, Simons Quest, Draculas Curse
Snes:
Castlevania IV & Dracula X
GB/GBA:
Adventure, Belmonts Revenge, Legends, Circle of Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance.
N64:
Castlevania 64 & Legacy of Darkness
Genesis:
Bloodlines
PS1:
SOTN & Chronicles
PS2:
Curse of Darkness & Lament of Innocence
PS3:
LOS 1 & 2
Wii:
Judgment
Legends, Dracula X and Judgment took me the longest to acquire. Are there any I should add to this, I'm not sure of the DS versions since I hate handhelds but what's your recommended mustys?
Castlevania is my most beloved franchise, Tied with Ninja Gaidens.

Re: Castlevania Appreciation Thread
I guess it depends on what you're looking for? You've got all the US console releases. If you want a full US physical set you need to add the 3 DS releases, the 3 3DS releases and the PSP release (Dracula X Chronicles aka only US release of Rondo)
Then there's the download-only releases (Mirror of Fate - though you could get LoS Collector's Edition or whatever it was called and have it on disc - Adventure Rebirth, and Harmony of Despair) but that's ephemeral imo, not nearly as important.
A lot of people would say Order of Ecclesia is one of the best recent releases, and I definitely liked it, but I'm with you -- not that into handhelds.

Chalk it up to being tired and not thinking of game names, just numbers. My brain went "there's 3 for every Nintendo handheld, right?" which was true right up until the 3DS came out. Just Mirror of Fate for that one.
Even a night shift worker can never fully acclimate to overnights. 90%, sure, but you'll always derp it up occasionally.

Re: Castlevania Appreciation Thread
I love the DS games, but I also love handhelds. I'd say it depends on your feelings for the GBA games, they're kind of an evolution from Aria of Sorrow with the first game being one of Castlevania's rare direct sequels.
I absolutely loved Dawn of Sorrow. That game's secret mode is the best.

Re: Castlevania Appreciation Thread
Tough call, Rondo and the PC Engine is gonna cost a pretty penny might be out of my logical range anymore these days but so so tempting I want it but I know where dropping 300-400 bucks will get me. Lol
I actually might break my handheld rule for this series, I do love the GBA ones but I'm able to play those on the GBA player,. Maybe unless you think they are definite's since I enjoyed the GBA style ones?
I think Mirror of Fate is download voucher only or I would of bought the collection already?
