Yes yes, double post, shut up. For those of you who were curious, pics of my new 4 slot big red! Click thru for bigger versions:

Left side: SNK is maybe half rubbed off, and there's one chip in the red strangely in the top center of everything, but nothing that can't be fixed
Image

Right side: Same deal with the white being slightly rubbed off, and you can't see too well but on the back/bottom edge, the dolly I used to move it did a little damage, going to have to wood putty that a tiny bit
Image

Its temporary home, completely blocking my front door!
Image

I'll eventually need to get a new CP overlay... that chip on the lower right will get to me eventually I know, and on the left what looks like just sticker gunk actually has a texture to it, like someone put something hot on it one time
Image

And much like all the rest of the white on the cab, in need of some love (and I haven't actually tested the memory card reader yet, I should do that):
Image

Boot or not, gotta love the Bust A Move
Image

SamSho 3 will be getting much love
Image

On the list of "Games that would've cost more to get shipped than the game itself.."

And the big winner for carts that came with this...

So there it is. Yesterday I played detective to decide if it was wiring or switches by changing switches from "Known bad" buttons to "Known good" ones... looks like the wiring is fine, some of the microswitches are just shot so I'll pick up some new ones of those (or just harvest the ones from my still-unbuilt mame box). And P1 for some reason is refusing to register diagonals. I have to assume I can fix that by taking it apart and putzing with it a little, but until I have working switches for P1 too, I'll just be playing single player from P2 for a while. I'm thinking, based on the fact that one stick has a chrome shaft and one has a black one, that P1 was replaced at some point and someone just didn't do a good job with it.

Awesome buddy - excited for you. Monitor looks good and it looks to be a pretty decent body too - you did good!

Congrats man, hope P1 is an easy fix. Blocking the front door isn't an issue, don't think you'll be leaving the house anytime soon.

I thought I'd never get this game for a reasonable price, but someone was selling it for $110 shipped and I just couldn't pass it up, its now officially the most I have paid for a single MVS cart, great game but damn is this game hard, buts its punishing like a mistress, it's painful but in a good way and you just keep coming back for more and she just keeps spanking you.

Thanks. P1 should be an easy enough fix, worst case scenario I buy a new stick, they're not expensive...

So I think, in order to have a consistent feel, I'm going to replace the microswitches in all 8 buttons. They're cheap (anywhere from like 80 cents to 1.29 I've seen) and small so shipping shouldn't cost much. My question is, anyone know what weight they're "supposed" to be for classic MVS feel? I've seen microswitches anywhere from 20g to 75g... I'm thinking midrange, 40-50 is going to be proper, since the one site I was on was claiming 75g was probably best suited for a P1/P2 button, not a daily driver, said it was a bit too hard to push down, and the 20g seems like they'll give no resistance at all. But if anyone knows what the theoretically "correct" weight is, I will definitely get that.

And on that note, any suggestions where to go? I'm thinking just go with Paradise Arcade since the price savings for this sort of thing via cheap chinese crap on ebay is minimal and Jasen's temporarily closed, but I'm open to suggestions from places y'all have had good success with in the past.

Most MVS's I have owned had 40g or 50g cherry switches on Happs buttons. Well except the one that had mice in the bottom, it had a random assortment of well everything.

Sounds good, that's what I was leaning towards anyway. Thanks for the vote of confidence :) Buttons aren't likely to be replaced (for now), 7 of 8 look original but they're working well enough and well... I'm feeling the pinch right now, so let's do it as inexpensively as I can, y'know? Some day I might do a full recondition and swap everything out to be identical, but today is not that day.

Paradise Arcade it is!

New switches fixed the buttons (duh) but sadly did not fix the not-hitting-diagonals issue that the p1 replacement joystick was having. Going to have to look and see if there's a restrictor plate or if the actuator can be flipped to change it from 4way to 8way, or if the dum-dums that replaced the stick just put on a 4 way stick.

I mean, worst case scenario, a brand new iL stick from Paradise will run me a whopping 12 dollars, but trying to avoid replacing where I can.

At the very least, my cab's now fully playable for puzzle games and most things that aren't fighters.
