Thread is dying but gotta throw my hate in the ring for Trauma Team. Didn't beat it but played it at length. The big sticking point is the endoscopy missions. Stabbing the Wiimote forward is just a pain in the ass and you move too slow. Also, the later EMT missions seem like you have to be on speed to even have a chance, but otherwise it's a great game. It's essentially like the other games in the series but they throw in those CSI-type missions that I love. Very reminiscent of old point and click games and they're a nice diversion from the operations. The stories are actually interesting too and the artwork and music are both nice.
If it's $8.99 at GameStop I will definitely be stopping there at lunch to grab it again.

Yeah Trauma Team (or any of the Trauma Center games) is definitely not for the impatient. You've got to have focused determination and nerves of steel to clear some of those EMT missions. The awesome surgery, diagnostician, orthopedics, and forensics stuff makes up for the annoying EMT stuff and WTF-was-Atlus-thinking endoscopy crap. Trauma Team gets absolutely epic towards the end, totally worth the effort. And it's a huge game for what it is, it will take you about 25 hours to finish. Even if someone hates the game it's worth owning for its killer OST.

Since the thread is dying, some additional comments and questions about a few games.
I know this thread intentionally tried to avoid discussing sports games, but it's a shame. The motion/pointer/balance controls available on Wii were fantastic for soccer, golf, tennis, and snowboarding. Shaun White Snowboarding games in particular stand out in my mind as immensely enjoyable to play with friends and a few drinks if you use the balance board as a snowboard.
Did anyone here mention Rabbids Go Home? I know that the whole Rabbids craze got beaten into the ground with the (actually quite fun) Rayman party games... but this release was a totally different experience and very humorous. It's basically a 3D collectathon platforming done in a shopping cart - so gameplay won't blow you away. But the great voice clips and consistently entertaining scenarios made this game stand out for me. Having a fun soundtrack never hurts either.
Another odd game that I really enjoyed was Order Up!. It's not a fantastic game, kind of like Cooking Mama but (for me) cuter and more engaging. But it's one of those "only on Wii" kind of experiences that was unique and fun and interesting... really enjoyed that game for a short time, but didn't play far enough into it to know if it got super repetitive.
As for Overlord Dark Legend, just looking for opinions. Own it, haven't put any significant time in yet, but someone told me it was like Pikmin? There was apparently a release with a similar name but different gameplay on other consoles; is the Wii game worth playing?
And finally, did anyone talk about Sakura Wars: So Long My Love? Maybe too niche... although I have to believe that some here would be into that game.

Shaun White, et al --- but, do you think you'd go back to it in 5-10 years? I have to think with motion and graphic improvments that whatever is on Wii U or Wii U n ME in 5+ years is going to make these games obsolete - there isn't anything in the actual gameplay design that is omg, must play THAT game.ejamer wrote:The motion/pointer/balance controls available on Wii were fantastic for soccer, golf, tennis, and snowboarding. Order Up...is fun for an hour, but at it's core it's just shovelware. The charm wears off quickly. My kids played it the day we got it and loved it...wanted to play it the next day too...then they got bored midway on the 2nd day and have never wanted to play it again.
Rabbids Go Home, Sakura Wars and Overlord Dark Legend have not been discussed. I have no familiarity with any of them and would love to hear if these are games that we might be interested in. Who's played them?

I have a copy of Rabbids Go Home, but too my shame, I have not played it yet. Unlike the other Rabbid games, however, it is a well-reviewed adventure game designed by Ubisoft's best studio. Moreover - and based on my review of its Wikipedia article - it sounds like pretty much the best game ever:
It is also exclusive to the Wii, and I will be interested in reading other member's thoughts on this game.Wikipedia wrote:The player controls a team of two Rabbids pushing a shopping cart. The goal of the game is to collect as much stuff as possible during each level and help the Rabbids build a pile high enough to reach the Moon. . . . The Rabbids' main mode of offense is a loud vocalization called the "Bwaaaah! Attack", which can be triggered by shaking the Wii Remote. . . . At several points during the game, a rabbid is "drawn" into the Wii remote itself, and can be thrown and bounced around while "inside" the remote as the screen displays an apparent interior view of the remote. . . . The music of Rabbids Go Home was composed by Fanfare Vagabontu, a Moldovan gypsy brass band, but inspired from the Romanian folk music.

Let me preface by saying that I don't think any of the games I brought up belong in the top 30 list - at least, probably not. Maybe you could argue for the Rabbids Go Home game based on humor and charm, although I don't think the game itself is groundbreaking in any way. They are fun to talk about though.
That game is probably still best as an arcade-type experience though. Something you pick up and fool around with, not something you spend a lot of time mastering. Many of my favorite Wii experiences are that way - overcoming shallow play by being fun and unique. (It also helps when most Wii games can be bought at very low prices. These kind of experiences aren't worth $50 or $60... but if it's under $10 I'm much more lenient with what is worth buying.)
In 10 years will gaming move towards more motion, or less? My bet is less - especially when talking about an extra accessory that people actually stand on instead of just camera controls or hand-held motions. So I think it's entirely possible that a game like Shaun White (when played using the Balance Board) will be incredibly fun and novel in 10 years even though the actual game design isn't that special.mjmjr25 wrote:Shaun White, et al --- but, do you think you'd go back to it in 5-10 years? It's a very cool game, but it was a PS2 game long before it was ported to Wii. (And yes the PS2 version did get a domestic English release.)mjmjr25 wrote:did anyone talk about Sakura Wars: So Long My Love
