SFC third party power supply

Post by Stickbug »

Got a Super Famicom, noticed it came with a third party AC adapter. I was under the impression the Nintendo branded SFC AC adapter would work fine here in the US, but I'm unsure of this one, since I know little about these things. Here's what it says on the adapter:

FC/SFC Adapter
Input: AC100-240V
50/60Hz 20VA

Output: DC10V 850mA

What I'm wondering is, will using this AC adapter here in the US damage the SFC (whether now or over time)?

A lot of people in the USA use power adapters meant for use in Japan. The input voltage is a little higher here in the USA, and that's why some people say you can't use them or that they'll burn out eventually.

The one that you have, the 100-240v input means it's meant to be used around the world, you'll have no problem using it.

Whether it's the correct output for the SFC is another story. 10v 850mA is the correct specs for an American SNES, I can't confirm if it's the same for the SFC. For some reason, the PAL SNES inputs 9v 1300mA, for all I know the SFC could too. But, even if it does, you'd probably be alright using it. A lot of us use power adapters that are slightly over/under spec. And it hardly matters because of the power regulator. The SNES/SFC have a 7805, which has a max input of 35v. So I wouldn't worry about it, especially if that was the power adapter that the previous owner was using.

Do you have an official SFC power adapter? If so, could you post a clear pic of the specs in this thread?

Were talking of the HVC-002 adapter here.
It powers on the Famicom, AV Famicom, Super Famicom and Super Famicom Junior.

You want me to post pics of that? ok
