Assuming we're having tables for Batsugun and Batsugun Special, I thought I'd get the Special clear out of the way first...

Batsugun Special

DocHauser - 6,682,220 - Stage 8 - Type B (Beltiana) - Shmupmame 4.2

Zero milking. Made it to Jupiter again on the 2nd loop. Could probably improve on that score, but I'll probably try and concentrate on Batsugun for a while, as I haven't cleared the first loop of that before...

The reason I originally thought it to be a bad idea was that it was never seriously considered as a game in any competitions I have participated in for that particular milking point. I just didn't want the top positions on the scoreboard to consist of those who could make it to Stage 4 and save the max capacity of 7 bombs just to burn them all up there.

A good point was raised in that me or any one else can't exactly provide a base-line or a line of judgement as to who's doing it and who's not. I thought some people would have an issue with it too for the reasons I stated above, but if it is all right with you all, I'll allow milking with extreme prejudice. Just note that I myself won't be taking advantage of it, providing I even make it to Stage 4. The safe spot I've seen there is handy, but I probably won't have all 7 bombs at that point either

So then, GO WITH IT! Thank you all for your thoughts on this so far.

(original starting post for this month edited)

EDIT AGAIN: Special mode on the Saturn port will also have its own scoreboard. If you're playing the Saturn port, please indicate Normal or Special mode. I'll edit the original post for that too.

I'm with Nyuuki, for all the talk of the milk spot...it is not easy to do. If you can, go for it. I'd be surprised if anyone but doc could pull it off.

This is probably not the time to ask - but i'm asking anyways, right after my no-show for
DDP. Any interest in a run 'n gun club? I always worried about milking in those games, but the more I play, the majority will either run out of enemies, or it will force you along - so just eliminate the few that don't do that and we'd be good to go.

(if there is real consideration i'll branch this off into a new topic).

I'd be up for RNGOTM (or a more catchy name), if only to find someting other than Contra to play in the genre.

A fully blown club might be a bit too high maintenance, no? Could just start with a "What Run N Gun are you playing?" thread.

Does anyone know the pros/cons of using autofire? I seem to recall something about not always wanting to tap fire and sometimes it's better to hold 'A.' Can anyone elaborate or debunk this?

I've only used type b, and from playing briefly it 'feels' like I'm taking down large enemies quicker with autofire, but don't know if that's a fact or not.

Right, I'm not playing with autofire, but with Beltiana you can clearly see more "bolts" coming out of her shot when tapping to fire and it definitely takes down larger enemies faster. Strength of shot aside, I feel like there was some sort of scoring mechanic built around sometimes tapping/sometimes not tapping fire for certain enemies, but I could be mistaken...

Don't know about scoring, but with the larger enemies that shoot rockets it makes sense to tap and shoot down as many rockets as possible without accidentally killing the enemy so as to rack up experience points early on.

The "proto-Dodonpachi" character in Type C has two different shots, depending on whether you tap or hold down the fire button. This might be what you are remembering?

It doesn't have any affect on scoring, and I don't think it changes his speed at all either, but you do get a wider shot by tapping.
