SOME ANIME BASED GAMES I LIKE INCLUDE:

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for Dreamcast (arcade originally) is a solid Capcom fighting game. I'm not so wild about the three-button control-scheme but it's a legit title!
Zillion for SMS is pretty solid; I've never beaten it, but I had a lot of fun with it!

If you play it you will become a fan.

Dat price tho.
Definitely a great game. I actually ordered my copy directly from Working Designs shortly before they went out of business. I still miss them...

I don't see anyone listing Dragonball or Naruto games, which is funny cause you'd think after 30 and 15 games respectively they'd get it right, but it seems everyone just finds the games bloated?

doesn't everyone know about dragonball already? Isn't Naruto its modern equivalent?

Maybe just bringing that up makes people's eyes roll.

Your thread is about anime games that non-fans would not know about or want to try.

Naruto and DBZ would probably be the last thing to make them play once you convert them over to the weaboo side.

UN Squadron (SNES) is based on the anime/manga Area 88 (and is called Area 88 in Japan and the arcades). It's one of the best shmups of all time.

Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode and Golgo 13: The Mafat Conspiracy, both for the NES, were amazing in their day, though they haven't held up terribly well over time.

There are some good games from the Fist of the North Star series. I remember liking the NES version long ago, and the Japan-only PS2 fighting game is supposed to be really good, though I haven't played it myself.

Gungrave and Gungrave: Overdose on the PS2 are tons of fun. They are over the top shooters with a lot of great action and badassery.

Ghost in the Shell for the PS2 is a decent title. It's a better movie though.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master on the NES was a memorable title for the NES with a lot of charm. I think it was based on a manga or something.

The Little Nemo game is based on a Japanese film, but the character and original comics are American in original.

Yeah, Hokuto No Ken is good. I have it on Atomiswave and it gets a lot of love from others. It's at least fun for me to watch others play it.

Also by the same devs (ArcSys) was Sengoku Basara X, which seems to be directly based on the anime of the same name.

I personally really enjoyed Sengoku Basara 2, 3 and both their expansions by Capcom (it started as a game series, but the anime series based on it is a lot more popular), but I know I'm in the minority on that.

As for Dragonball Z/Naruto, the Narutimette Hero games were fun enough and Super Dragon Ball Z would probably be the most solid of the DBZ games.

I played this game in Japan ( and it was a really fun 4p DBZ game.

Would the Initial D games count? I know some people who are absolute fanatics, spent thousands of dollars on a 2P set-up for it.

I just don't know if the manga or the game came first with that.

haha, not really. It's more about a discussion of which anime games are good and can hold up on their merit as video games alone.

Aka: you don't need to enjoy the fan service to enjoy the game.
