I did what one of the OTA HD websites home made antennas (see pic) and it works for me. I get 60 mile radius, about 15 channels and all from inside. Never mind the tacky decorations.

that look very easy to build i just might try that

Lots of people are more than willing to give away their old towers and antennas for free. Just look around some garage sales or craigslist. I had a 35 foot tower and antenna given to me for free by a friend who was happy to ditch it.

Most people are sold on satalite and could care less about their old antenna.

Marurun generally speaketh the truth. Uhf and vhf as they are currently known are gone for. But yes, any antenna will work. I second getting an aerial from craigslist etc. for cheap. I have an aerial but have yet to install it.
