Here's the old DOS game. It really was a decent game

Re: Lord of the Rings Video Games
Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
I'll be sure to snag some of these up.
Also, minor update; tried a little of The Hobbit on PS2 a few hours ago, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
It's not amazing, by any means, but it's a really solid game. Feels good to play a game from Sierra's older days.
LEGO games are always solid, so I'm definitely down for that. Loved the LEGO Star Wars games.Exhuminator wrote:These are supposed to be pretty fun:

Haven't played them yet myself to verify though.
Huh. I was always under the assumption that that one wasn't so great. I might have to give it a shot. I need more SNES games anyways. lolJmustang1968 wrote:Hobie-wan wrote: By accounts I've seen the SNES LOTR volume 1 is not good. Obviously they didn't make a vol 2 either.
It isnt amazing, but it isnt bad either. Worth checking out.
I might give that one a try too. Didn't even know a game like that existed. lolFragems wrote:I just picked up LOTR Conquest for PS3 the other day haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet but it sounds like a setup similar to Starwars Battlefront in LOTR settings.

Re: Lord of the Rings Video Games
Played Conquest a bit just now and I have to say it is pretty horrible
. It might be better in multiplayer, however the servers are down so split screen is the only option. Main issue is the AI isn't worth a damn and the game ends up feeling like a Dynasty Warriors game with a severely underpowered character
. When in single player mode they give you a limited number of lives to complete each task while sending an endless stream of enemies your way. Since the AI can't push worth a damn you end up either bum rushing the enemy by yourself or slowly babysitting friendly waves forward. It was so bad that I wasn't able to beat the second level on Heroic(might be hard mode only had a choice between it and "Casual" which I took to mean easy) mode. Think I'm going to pass on playing it for now.

Not sure how I missed this one, but w/e. lolSnatch1414 wrote:As for suggestions, there was a homebrew of a Lord of the Rings 2D fighter for the Genesis I saw at a show once haha
Anyways, yeah. I've heard of that one. I actually found a copy of that one on eBay back in 2012, when I first started collecting. I thought it was one of those Chinese bootleg game things, so I never bothered with it.
Good to know it's homebrew, though. I may have to find a copy now.

Re: Lord of the Rings Video Games
Has anyone here attempted that SNES Lord of the Rings as I'm kind of curious if it's any good or not. It's also funny they called it Vol1, guess they hoped to do more.

I haven't, but from what I'm seeing on GameFAQs' reader reviews, it's mostly mixed-to-negative. I saw a few 3-4/10's, and a few 5-6/10's as well. Only a few people gave it a 7 or higher.Tanooki wrote:Has anyone here attempted that SNES Lord of the Rings as I'm kind of curious if it's any good or not. Also, PeanutButterGamer wasn't a huge fan of it. I remember watching his video on the SNES game, back in October 2013.

Being a Tolkien dork in my teens, I actually got that SNES entry back in 1994, and even during its time I thought it was a crappy game. I would say emulate it before you buy it, just to see if its something you would enjoy.Tanooki wrote:Has anyone here attempted that SNES Lord of the Rings as I'm kind of curious if it's any good or not. PLAY KING'S FIELD.
