There is no such thing as an "unbiased review," sorry. We all bring our particular biases into anything we do. You just have to learn the reviewer's tastes and use that to inform you on the value of their review. I find a lot more value in the opinions of people on forums and other friends than I do any particular pro reviewer.

That's why I said realistically unbiased. If those were the only biases in place I'd read those type of sites a lot more, but regardless I agree it's better to just ask other gamers anyways.

Sad if true. Although I noticed a tonal shift from a few of their authors. Jessica Conditt in particular has said some pretty biased stuff as far as politics goes.

Of course, since I criticized her, that means I hate women, I suppose.

So this brings up the obvious question: where would be the best place to get this sort of gaming news?

I'm not gonna say the following links are "the best", but this what I read lately to try and keep up:

http://www.dualshockers.com/
http://www.siliconera.com/
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2
http://www.romhacking.net/
http://www.hardcoregamer.com/category/reviews/
http://www.gamecritics.com/video-game-reviews

Other than that, I check GameRankings once a month to make sure I didn't miss any releases on platforms I care about.

I'm open to other suggestions as well. Hard to find a good GooglePlay news and review site for example.

I just go for sites that are less generalist. Nintendolife.com is one of my favorites because it is clear what they are all about.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I don't think biased and opinated are synonyms. Still, I don't think "bias" as commonly understood is much of a problem in game reviews as other issues.

Still, if what you want is to be "in the know" of what's going in gaming, your best bet is to lurk NeoGAF. If you want reviews, that's harder, try to follow writers on Twitter or check some of their work to see if you like them until you find someone you trust.

Agree completely and since Nintendo Power shuttered itself it's the only one I check out on a daily or almost daily basis. Some of the comments are weird though, why bother reading or posting on the site if you hate everything Nintendo.

I...I...I...I do not view Angry Joe in the same way you do. Sorry. :|
What don't you care for about him? I'm just curious. No surprise some like him and some don't I'd just be interested to hear. For me the guy just likes good games but will still critique them, and doesn't mince words when something just isn't cutting it. He's also the only person I hear factor in how much games actually cost, which I like. All the regular sites people hit don't seem to consider that their copy was free and ours aren't.

Angry Joe... A guy who makes 25-minute "angry rant" videos about current-gen AAA games.

I shall pass.

I personally follow Polygon, as my tastes when it comes to news are what games are coming out and then if there's a game I wasn't instabuy on I like to hear thoughts on it. As long as a score isn't abysmal (5 or less) I let the text of the review do the talking. I've found that the Polygon reviewers do a good job of explaining the things they like and the things they don't; the only disconnect that you sometimes see is in translating the text into a single number. I've certainly read reviews where they talk about a lot of things that sound really great and have problems with some things I don't care about and then give it a low score. But for me that doesn't matter, as I've made my mind up based on the qualitative impressions rather than the raw score.
