CONGO, the book and the movie were God awful. Both made a lot of money, but for what reason?
Oh. "From the writer of Jurassic Park".
What was the last movie you've seen?

Congo, the book and the movie, are so bad that they almost go all the way back to good again. Almost.
EDIT: The movie stars Joe Don Baker and Tim Curry!

There's one scene that could have been comedy gold:prfsnl_gmr wrote: Congo... I might have to watch it again.
"Stephen Hawking Monkey" does a bunch of sign language to a group of apes, and the apes turn their backs on her. If only the apes looked at each other and gave her the middle finger, as in Ack's avatar...would have been great.
And if you do re-watch CONGO, you'll know exactly at which scene I'm referring to.

Roger Ebert thought it was suppossed to be a comedy:Luke wrote:There's one scene that could have been comedy gold:prfsnl_gmr wrote: Congo... I might have to watch it again.

Roger Ebert wrote:[Congo] is based on a novel by Michael Crichton, who is said to be unhappy about what they've done with his book. Since it is impossible to imagine this material being played for anything but laughs, maybe he should be grateful.
I am definitely rewatching this.

Pretty awesome movie from Lucasfilm that I had never heard of before. While I didn't care much for Val Kilmer everything else in the film was awesome. They did a really good job with the fantasy setting and I loved watching the older special effects. Really miss the good old days before everyone started whoring themselves to CGI. Also for once somebody used little people for dwarfs as well which was pretty awesome.
I love Willow! I'm surprised you didn't like Val Kilmer though. Mad Martigan is one of my favorite characters that he has played. Peck!
Now you should go play Willow on the NES, which is an ARPG masterpiece, often forgotten in the ravages of time. The Willow arcade game was also a memorable side scroller.

I think I'm just biased against Val Kilmer I've just never really liked his style of acting. He seems to be really tense a lot of the time and his acting seems forced.
I think about the only movie I can remember liking his performance in was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I'm a huge fan of Willow as well, but Tombstone features Val Kilmer in what is to my mind the definitive portrayal of Doc Holiday. His performance in The Doors ain't half bad either. (Not that I'm a Kilmer fanboy or anything, just tossing a couple other roles out there for consideration)Fragems wrote:I think about the only movie I can remember liking his performance in was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

That is an awesome movie, and it is definitely Val Kilmer's best performance.Fragems wrote:I think about the only movie I can remember liking his performance in was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

And I've never seen that WILLOW ad. Looks like mini-Richard D James is center.

Licensing rights are dumb, almost as dumb as the people who make the decisions to sell off the licenses.
What I'm getting at is Marvel made some bad decisions that even almighty Disney might not be able to clear up for years. It's a mess. A mess that can be cleaned, but not without tons of bucks.
Picture a Fantastic Four movie that centers around character development. Picture the four having to adapt and accept their new given powers and not straight out the jump fighting a tyrant. Think about the villain not being evil, but someone with a different point of view who isn't hellbent on destroying or occupying Earth.
Namor.
Reed loves Sue, as does Namor. Different worlds, different powers, epic conflict. God knows I would love this to come to fruition, but it won't.
F4 will make a haul, but I'm skeptical from the get go. I'll never judge a movie by a teaser, but these days a "comic book movie" has already earned a "meh" rating, with a few amazing outliers. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY brought the cheese, had a forgettable villain, dozens of side characters, but all in all, the movie was fun and brought the laughs.
Too soon to deflate the tires, but F4 looks like quite a weak thing.
Juice it!
F4 needs to fire it up a notch!
The only thing invisible about this movie will be my ticket!
Johnny come not so lately!
Saying this will make a profit is a stretch!
