In other bit of sad news, Joystiq contributor Andrew Yoon passed away in a drowning accident.

They were in cahoots like almost every other site. Not that they weren't capable of producing good stuff, but the whole industry is a sham. I pretty much get all my unbiased news from Angry Joe. He's not necessarily a guy I'd hang out with, but he knows his stuff and is right in that sweet spot of "really popular so he gets some access but not popular enough to be on the take constantly".

bummer. They had several writers that I enjoyed reading opinions of. But I actually enjoy their podcast a lot more than their site. I'm sure we'll see many of their writers migrate to other sites though.

The whole industry seems to be restructuring itself and closures and absorbtions are really common lately, sucks :/

I...I...I...I do not view Angry Joe in the same way you do. Sorry. :|

FFS with this nonsense. There's no more or less "cahoots" in game journalism than in any other kind of hobby/media journalism. If anything is a "sham" and perhaps driven by questionable ideology, it is these tired arguments.

No, don't you see Dave? At one point or another a game journalist spoke with a game developer casually. This is proof that all game journalists are secretly in the pockets of game developers (both metaphorically and literally).

Keep pulling the sweater, MrPopo. Eventually the whole thing will unravel.

Joystiq used to be a pretty good read, but the last two years or so the quality definitely diminished. Not saying I'm glad to see them go, but I'm not surprised. The only thing more volatile than steady game development is steady games journalism.

Oh well, I did that to myself. Should've known it'd get blown out of proportion. I just want realistically unbiased reviews and coverage before every time I consider spending $60. Sorry.

Agreed, but I'm still disappointed.

There used to be a number of sites I would go to for gaming news... but one-by-one it feels like the majority of those sites have either changed to the point where I no longer recognize/trust them or ended up shutting down. Worse: those changes have happened quicker than respectable new sites appear.

So now... well... get off my lawn!
