Lord of the Rings Video Games

Post by SonicGamer74 »

So, recently, for the past month or so, I've been really hooked on The Lord of the Rings franchise (Finished The Hobbit series, and just finished re-watching the original LotR films). So that got me to trying out some of the Lord of the Rings games that are out there.

So far, I have;

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Gamecube)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Gamecube)
The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age (Gamecube/PS2)
The Hobbit (PS2)
The Lord of the Rings: The War in the North (Xbox 360)

I've actually owned The Two Towers/Return of the King ever since I was 10, but I thought I'd count 'em anyways. :) Haven't played them in a while, but every time I have played them, I enjoyed them significantly. I'm in the middle of The War in the North and loving it, and I just got GC Third Age today, and I'm loving that one so far. Haven't played The Hobbit yet, though, but I plan to soon.

So, that got me to thinking; are there any other good LotR games out there? I'm curious if I should get into the other games based on the franchise or not. The only other game I can think of that might be good, is the recently released Shadows of Mordor game.

Also, what do you think of the games? I've already stated my thoughts, but I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks. Discussion is great. :D

(BTW, kinda a newbie here; mostly been lurking as a replier in threads, so hi!)
This user really likes SEGA Saturn. Avoid at all costs.

By accounts I've seen the SNES LOTR volume 1 is not good. Obviously they didn't make a vol 2 either.

Does the most recent release of the franchise "Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor" count?

Because if it does it's a fantastic game. Large world to run around in, the Nemesis System that revolves around the Orc hierarchy, and very brutal (the animations are, very well done).

Edit: missed the sentence where you mentioned the game.

Haven't played them yet myself to verify though.

I've played that too and yeah I'm not sure about it either but not a bad game at the time at least.

As for suggestions, there was a homebrew of a Lord of the Rings 2D fighter for the Genesis I saw at a show once haha

It's something that I'm interested in picking up, personally. I'm very interested in trying it out.

I've never attempted this one myself but I've had it recommended as a good game.

I just picked up LOTR Conquest for PS3 the other day haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet but it sounds like a setup similar to Starwars Battlefront in LOTR settings.

IGN Review:

I've also heard good things about LoTR Battle for Middle Earth I & 2 if your into RTS games. However they are pretty pricey by the looks of amazon :P.
