I barely even heard of a Master System growing up (and neither had any of my friends at the time).
Very late in the 90s, I think I just wondered where the 1st Phantasy Star came from, as I obviously could only trace the series back to 2 on Genesis.
The NES has formed too much of my gaming base to put the SMS on the same level (and my honest opinion is that Nintendo had Sega bested in almost every way on the 8-bit home front).
...BUT, I am so glad I opened up to the system when I eventually got the chance. My love for Wonder Boy sequels, Fantasy Zone, R-Type, and several other shmups have direct roots in my time with the Sega Master console.
Otherwise, I just find the games charming and quaint in the best way possible.

Thought I'd give this a bump.
I just got a power base converter for my Genesis, and went to my game store with 50.00 for a Xmas gift. Was going to buy some Genesis games when the store just put out some master system carts. It had to be fate. Walked out with,
Aztec adventure
Cloud master
Astro warrior
Penguin land
Wonder boy
Black belt
They also got double dragon, Rambo and after burner but those are complete and there on hold until next week or maybe I'll do a little trade for credit towards them.
Forgot how much fun some of these games were. Now all I need to get first is a master system controller since I can't play penguin land with a genesis controller

I'd skip After Burner. At least get AB II for Genesis or one of the other ports elsewhere.mas wrote: They also got double dragon, Rambo and after burner but those are complete and there on hold until next week or maybe I'll do a little trade for credit towards them.
Game Sack did an episode all about it and the home versions.

Hobie, after burner is only 2.99. Is it really that bad to not even get at 2.99?
I looked up some titles I onced owned and except for ninja gaiden, everything I see went up just a couple bucks unlike the nes and SNES.
I wonder how many people collect or play the sms but that's fine with me. The less people know what a gem this system is the better it is for me

All righty then. That's definitely cheap. You might still watch that video for comparison if you haven't already. As far as NG, yeah, it wasn't released here it seems. I want to get that too, but I haven't come across one at a price I want to pay.

Yeah I here's a few Thats about 70.00 and higher but there has been cart only for 40.00 or so. Just take the time. I don't care if the game is complete or not as long as it works.

Ugh, that's the 2nd (different carts) Golden Axe Warrior battery that's failed me, usually about 3/4 of the way through the game too. now that i have a Mega Everdrive i'm totally playing all battery backup games on that instead.
Re: The Master Sytem Appreciation Thread
I have been playing Marble Madness again,I like all versions I have ever played but they all drive me mad too.
So frustrating...

Re: The Master Sytem Appreciation Thread
Are any of the Marble Madness ports remotely playable?
I'm gonna hit up Golden Axe Warrior later this year, but on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (Xbox 360).

Or you can change the battery. 20+ year old batteries are always at risk of dying.IrishNinja wrote:Ugh, that's the 2nd (different carts) Golden Axe Warrior battery that's failed me, usually about 3/4 of the way through the game too. now that i have a Mega Everdrive i'm totally playing all battery backup games on that instead.
This from a guy who is tempting fate by playing through an original Final Fantasy (Famicom) cart on the original battery.
Also,
This from a guy that played through Golden Axe Warrior on an emulator even though he has a complete copy (or maybe because I have it, it's almost too nice to touch).
I really should take my own advice
