Dreamcast lightgun and House of the Dead 2 questions

Post by equalsign »

Alright. So I'm thinking of getting House of the Dead 2 for the Dreamcast, but I need some questions answered before I do.

I've heard that the Sega-made Dreamcast light gun wasn't released in America and will not work in the American version of this game. Is that true? Are the Madcatz "official" Dreamcast controllers good enough?

If not, would it be worth it to import a JAP copy? Or perhaps.... a PAL copy  ? What are the region differences, if any? Thank you in advance  .

I can confirm that the gun will only work with the game if they are both from the same region (PAL game with PAL gun, etc.). And keep in mind that it will not work with an LCD or plasma screen.

I would say import the game and gun from japan if you can. The madcatz guns aren't that good. Since HOTD2 is a shooter there aren't any language barriers.

yeah it wouldn't hurt to import. I've seen a box set with game and gun for 80 or so tops. I had a madcatz it wasn't brilliant but it was alright (they go for about 20-50)

Thanks guys^^. As far as I'm able to tell, the JAP version has the English voice acting, but Japanese text. I'll probably import the PAL version just to get it all in English.

The English voice acting is unbelievable - quite possibly the worst "acting" ever. It's even worse than the original resident Evil on PS1.

Because they really didn't want Americans to play it because of Columbine. The government and media already hated the company because of bloody Mortal Kombat and Night Trap years before. Sega never caught a break. Anyway, that's the root of this whole light gun fiasco.

Actually, Interact made a pretty darn good Dreamcast light gun called the Starfire. It's far and away better than the Mad Katz guns. From personal experience, I can tell you that the Japan version official Sega gun will NOT work with NTSC games.
