Cool.
The only Football game I've played on the SNES has been Tecmo Super Bowl (1). I mean, I've played others, but just for like 5 minutes or less. Tecmo Super Bowl is the only one that I actually played and won (or lost) a game. It just clicked with me and everything else seemed like it sucked by comparison.
I was aware that there were sequels, but I never tried them. I guess I was afraid they wouldn't be as good. Glad to hear that they're improvements though, and 3 looks like a nice graphical update. I'll have to check them out at some point.
Long ago, I found this way of being ridiculously good at Tecmo Super Bowl. There's this one play where you can almost always have an insanely long completed pass, and usually score a touchdown too. I would backpedal as the quarter back, and keep going back and back until the defense is just about to tackle, then pass the ball. The guy you're passing to has ran an equal distance in the opposite direction, and even odder, no one on defense bothered to follow him. So when you pass the ball, it travels like half the stadium or more and he always catches it because no one is covering. Then no one is around you so you can just start running for the end zone, and you can usually make it too. Even if you don't, you gained a million yards in one play.
It's ridiculous, and it sort of breaks the game, but I always found it hilarious. I guess it works because there's no cap on passing. I'm pretty sure you can throw the football from one end zone to the other, if your players were set up that way. Passing should have had a max yard cap on it, or that power bar type deal like kicking, something so you can't break the game like this. Although, it's not just the way passing works. For some reason, that one play causes the receiver to run out in the opposite direction equal to how far you run. And I guess since no defense is around him, he always has 100% chance of catching the ball.
So has anyone else played Tecmo 1 like this? I've tried doing this on a couple other plays and it doesn't work. I wonder if it works on other plays, since there's a lot of them that I've never tried.
Disclaimer: I typed this post as I was still waking up, before coffee.
