I hate to drag this out, but I'm still not clear on why deflating balls such a small amount would give either team an advantage?

Easier to grip, especially if you have small hands. Easier to catch also.

Right... but that would be easier for both teams then, right? IE: It would not give one team an advantage over the other?

So when your team takes the snap, are you only using your own set of footballs? Do they belong to your team?

If so, who owns the ball after a record breaking pick-6 or historic defensive fumble recovery?

If not, Indy was using the same footballs.

EDIT: Yeah... same questions I was typing when you wrote that, Brad.

They don't use each others stash of balls for some stupid reason. Now were the colts balls deflated?

Yes, they were. That's how this started. A Colts player caught a ball Brady threw, it was under inflated, and he reported it during the game.
Are there hundreds of cameramen zooming in on the sidelines at all times? Yes.
Not for the 2.5 hours between when the balls are inspected and when they begin being used.
Is their proof of someone tampering with the footballs? No. Or maybe not yet. But I doubt it.
We just don't know yet.

They also didn't know that they'd be blowing them out...if done deliberately, the balls would likely have been tampered with to give an "edge" long before it became clear that the Colts would be blown out. What's important in this story is the act of cheating, not its negligible impact on this particular game.

I did. :P
*some other stuff about cheating*
Yeah again, I really don't care about the drama. And not just cuz it's the Pats. This kind of stuff just doesn't excite me. The three hours of game time does. So like I said, I was just trying to understand WHY it would have been an advantage at all. (Didn't know there were separate balls for each team... as Stickem said, that's stupid.

EDIT: Also, you should note that "we just don't know yet" is the same thing as saying "no. At this time there is not proof."

Colts balls were not deflated.

If there is a turnover, once the team who created the turnover is now on offense, they use their own balls.

They do this as QBs and kickers are allowed to rough up their own balls before the game.
