also, as a rule of thumb, I try to avoid engaging in conversations that being with "I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but..."

Re: NFL 2014 Thread
It is my understanding that the inspection is usually cursory at best and that the teams have their equipment staff (e.g. ball boys) oversee the balls during the game.stickem wrote:It might look bad but the pats don't have access to the balls. The refs inspect them right before gametime and go directly to the field with an nfl employee and that's where they stay.
Re: NFL 2014 Thread
Yeah i dunno. Still upset about the catch that wasn't lol. Seems far fetched but who knows

It is against the rules yes, but it also isnt something that creates much of an advantage. You win 45-7 and isnt because a football is 2 psi under inflated. So I think it is blown out of proportion a bit.
And the home team does supply the balls and the ref inspects before the game.
The video taping was worse than this imo.

Re: NFL 2014 Thread
I don't think the deflated balls had much of anything to do with the outcome of the game, but I think the principle is the important thing. This is at least twice Belichick has been officially caught cheating in some way, and another slap on the wrist (draft picks or fines) is just reinforcing that cheating by the #2 most profitable team in the NFL is not a big deal to the Commish.Jmustang1968 wrote:It is against the rules yes, but it also isnt something that creates much of an advantage. Losing high draft picks is not a slap on the wrist.
The principle is that all the teams take advantages where they can get them.

Re: NFL 2014 Thread
For some teams losing the pick stings quite a bit...but the Pats are a desirable team to play for b/c they have deep pockets and success on the field. Frankly they don't really need the draft near as much as many lower-tier teams, and obviously losing the picks hasn't really hurt them much.Jmustang1968 wrote:Losing high draft picks is not a slap on the wrist.
What other teams have been caught cheating? The signals thing - not cheating: fair advantage. Spygate and deflating balls? Cheating. The principle is that all the teams take advantages where they can get them.
Re: NFL 2014 Thread
Shoot, maybe the Southeastern teams should cheat more.Jmustang1968 wrote:The principle is that all the teams take advantages where they can get them.

I'd argue that videotaping just brings the game that much closer to the war simulator it already is. What's a war without a little spycraft?
