That looked pretty cool. While you were talking about influences, I started noticing parts that reminded me of Mega Man, Batman: Return of the Joker, and GI Joe. That is some excellent pedigree.

Also, how many other games have Chinese hopping vampires for enemies? That is awesome!

Vice is always one of the first games (along with Shatterhand) that I recommend when someone wants to play some relatively unknown NES games. It's fantastic

It has Ninja Gaiden-style cutscenes, non-platforming segments that actually don't suck, and the rest of the game plays like a more forgiving Castlevania with better controls.

The setting also has a cool blade runner feel to it and the pixel art is great. It stands head and shoulders with the classic action platformers on the console and in a few ways is even better. One of the finer late-era NES specimens.

I always saw Mystic Quest as a game without an audience.

People who weren't RPG fans probably weren't going to play it, and if they did it likely wasn't going to change their mind about the genre. People who were RPG fans were going to be bored out of their minds.

It was a good idea, but it just didn't work out the way they intended. Final Fantasy fans got a game they didn't want and non-Final Fantasy fans just didn't care.

But having an RPG skewed towards a younger crowd was still a good idea. We all know how Pokémon worked out.

I think you're dead-on here, it's always dangerous to talk down to an audience, so to speak. It's a good idea from a sales, growth and marketing perspective, but in the real world, word of mouth will eventually get out that this game "is for kiddies and/or idiots." And even then it's a crapshoot whether or not they'll like it.

Dig your reviews dude, keep them coming.

If I may recommend a game not many people talk about that I think should be talked about a bit... Equinox.

Great music (by the wonderful Folin), good colorful graphics, challenge based on level design and not poor controls or design... it's an underappreciated gem for what it is IMO. I always wished there was another sequel.

It's on the list. A list that's like 50+ games long now.
