Finally found some Neo Geo in the wild. Today one of my co workers mentioned he was trying to sell a Neo Geo cabinet and someone on craigslist flaked out on him, I asked him if there were any games in the cab and if I could buy them off him, he said sure for $40 each. I might of overpaid a bit for street slam but I think I did well for Magician Lord, the Magician Lord I already had but it was lacking a label. The Street Slam is interesting because there are two labels slapped on top of each other, maybe the one underneath it Japanese? But the boards are indeed legit. He said he also has the Mini Marquees for them too in the cab and he will bring them to me tomorrow.

Price was about right on street slam (great game btw) and you got a steal on Mag lord. A while back I sold a Magician Lord MVS cart for about $80 and my inbox blew up.

So Magician Lord is one of those games where the AES version is cheaper, huh?

Nice finds. Outside of PAX East I've never seen Neo games in the wild. All of mine were purchased online.

Maybe I'm going insane but the "Miscellaneous" subforum seems to vanish when I log in. Maybe I don't have "permissions" to view it yet?
2-part response coming...

First - welcome...and...do a ton of reading. It is a very tight community and a lot of people get off on the wrong foot accidentally. You'll have friends over there though.

There is a ton of restriction due to cons and scammers - so site access is implemented slowly. If you "try" to view the market - it is a red flag and will slow the account approval process. I think it took Omerta like a month to get full site privileges.
Thanks for the tips. I'll post casually until I build up enough rep to use the Market I guess.

But yeah, access is indeed slow. Took about 10 days before I could post at all!

Well apparently I am a "Timid Neo Newbie", my (default?) avatar is a smiley face popping out of a coffee cup, and my flag was set to Abu Dhabi before I changed it. Interesting.

Neo-Geo gets alot of undue flak, yeah they are pretty harsh on people coming in just to use the marketplace, but that is probably a good thing. There is a good sense of community there and they are mostly all pretty good guys once you get to know them. That is actually something I wish RB would adopt, I'm kind of sick of seeing people using RB as their free advertisement for their ebay auctions to inflate the final bid.

But yeah I avoid the war room, it's pretty much 4chan in there.

Magician Lord is interesting (great find btw). When I got into neo it was a $35 cart. This is maybe 4 years ago. There is this feeling that there is no reason for it to be more than that - a couple random ebay auctions and it did $100. People were confused - a few put up their copies at $70 and got hit w/mass pm's. I get the feeling you could put it up for $120 and it would fly - there are so many people looking for it (and Windjammers). It's one of the rare cases where a games value has been able to be kept artificially down by a marketplace. It's something that forum should be proud of - it's cool to see.

I think Magician Lord is probably a bit on the rare side, I don't think they made many for the arcades as it was launch Neo Geo title and I don't see it being a hit in the arcades. There are actually none on Ebay right now so that must mean it is a bit uncommon. Games great but rather brutal, playing in MVS mode is ideal for those unlimited continues. Ideally I'd like to trade my extra copy for a Super Doge Ball, that game is next on my hit list. My friend was up from Chicago a few weeks ago and we had a blast with it and Baseball Stars 2.

Baseball Stars 2 is tons of fun with friends. The fact that the cart will save records is huge. Highly recommended.

I cab purchase from four years ago came with 13 carts or so. Just like Mjmjr, Magician Lord was about $30 back then. I wasn't enamored with it so I sold it for $28 or so. Crazy how the price has climbed. Wish I had held it a little longer so I could have made a little more cash. Don't miss the game though.

"MVS mode"???

I finished Magician Lord on the PS2 last year. It wasn't that bad EXCEPT for that insane platforming section - I think it's in the second to last level - where you're basically screwed if you don't go in powered up.

I ended up selling my original cart to gallegos1 on NG.com for $70 shipped ($5) less than I originally paid BIgBear for, Gallegos really hooked me up with a steal price on some Nintendo games a few months ago and considering the price I paid for my second cart I felt like keeping the good karma vibes rolling ;). He is also a bit strapped for cash being in school atm so I'm letting him pay it off over 3 months. Just stating this here for the record and so people don't keep PMing me if I want to selll my extra copy :P

Oh and Bone I meant MVS mode not MVS difficulty, the AES version has limited continues and starts you at the beginning of the stage when you die, MVS mode when you die you restart right where you died.

If you're unaware, the UniBIOS allows you to set your system as either AES or MVS (with the Select button being coin-up), as well as change the region.
