Do any of you Have any of you been into C++

Post by lost_within »

Ok...i kept putting off my online class, thinking itll be simple, well turns out...im a more in the class kinda guy...and i have screwed myself royally. I did some small C++ programming a few years ago just to try and learn it...but it was more of a dos deal where you just typed in your code, and ran it. For this class i have to do...

Complete an IPO chart and do a desk check? WTF is this? Do you do this under Visual? Can anyone explain this better to me at all?

and what the hell is a pseudocode....is this even REALLY programming anymore :? Maybe i just fell wAAAAAAAAAAAy the hell behind.

Anyway, moral of this is...i didnt have a chance to read the 200+ pages due to messing more with my network class so can anyone try to...help me out? Come over and do this for me? lol Seriously, if any of you are skilled with it pm me...or something, i have 3 things due TOMORROW at midnight EST for this class...HELP?!
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

Wow. Sounds like you have screwed yourself.

The things you are asking about are not actually C++ specific.

You can read about IPO charts on Wikipedia. Honestly, I've never been required to do one. You really should look it up in your textbook.

I also have no idea what a "Desk check" is.

Pseudo-Code is no programming. It is writing out what your program is supposed to do using simple sentences to represent what the program should do. For example:

Loop 20 times:
Print "I am the walrus."
Store system time to time array.
Wait 10 seconds.

The above pseudocode would represent code in a program that prints "I am the walrus" and stores the system time every ten second. It does this 20 times.

But don't kid yourself that you fell behind in this class because you spent too much time on your Networking class. How many hours are you sleeping? How many hours are you playing video games? Don't answer these questions except in your head. You need to be spending some quality time with your textbook, online course website, and your compiler. Good luck.

A desk check means you do on paper what the program should do, as if you were running it

Trust me i admit i could have/should have put more time into it...im not saying that at all. I work 2 jobs, and this was my first ever attempt at an online class. Which i should have known wouldnt be good for me sense im more hands on than anything. I made a booboo now im just trying to figure out...wth to do. Honestly im debating on just taking two horrible grades and start on next week to try and just pass the class. Thanks for the help though.

I'm not really your mother or anything. I was probably harsher than I should have been.

I'm just in grad school right now, and I've been a TA in the past, so I've become wary of the "not enough time" excuse.

In all seriousness, I think you should still try as hard as you can on these assignments, even though they're almost due and you may not get a good grade. I don't know how much they count towards your final grade, but if it's more than 5% of your final grade, even getting 50% on each won't hurt you nearly as much as getting zeros. It could wind up being the difference between a letter grade in your final average.

And yes, online courses do kind of suck.

They're asking for a very general thing. Actually no coding is required.

Really, if you want to see a simple example of what those problems are basically asking for:

http://www.cameron.edu/~davids/MIS3013L ... ds-on.html

you got a:

IPO table, IPO... Input Process Output. It's basically a 'table' that describes a process in your program. As you scan down the list it is a series of operations described horizontally as the input, what happens to it, and what is returned.

psuedocode, this can be very general like the example on that page... or you can get more descriptive and apply schema and rules from the paradigm you are learning. You will notice that if you are writing some agorithm in a procedural paradigm... both the IPO and the psuedocode are going to look almost identical.

and the desk check would just be you writing out the process in hand to check it actually works. Kind of like 'showing your work' in algebra, or a proof set in Geometry.

In general the three things they are asking you to do is to show you how to plan code. All three methods are interchangeable and very similar.

And I agree with Limewater... do your best. How much could it hurt??? You get the answer wrong!? Woohoo, if you don't do it you guarantee it's wrong.

Advice for any test... do the questions you know, then the questions you think you know, then if all else fails... guess on what is left.

I couldn't tell you how many times I got questions correct by purely winging it based on the question alone.

And never forget... you're on the internet:
